Politics – Former minister and senior Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham was laid to rest on Wednesday at his native village of Kirlampudi in Andhra Pradesh’s Kakinada district. The funeral witnessed a large gathering of political leaders, supporters, and local residents who assembled to pay their final respects. The atmosphere remained emotional as admirers remembered his long public life and contributions to state politics.

Family Declines State Honours

The Andhra Pradesh government had decided to extend state honours during the funeral proceedings. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan instructed district officials to make the necessary arrangements. However, Mudragada Padmanabham’s family respectfully declined the government’s offer, choosing to conduct the final rites according to their own wishes. The veteran leader had passed away on Tuesday following an illness, bringing an end to a long political journey that spanned several decades.

Tight Security Arrangements at Funeral Venue

Authorities deployed extensive security across Kirlampudi to ensure that the funeral ceremony proceeded peacefully. Kakinada district police maintained strict vigilance as thousands of people gathered in the village to pay homage. Officials monitored the movement of visitors and managed the large crowds throughout the day to avoid any untoward incidents.

Leaders Across Political Parties Pay Tribute

Several prominent political personalities attended the funeral and offered floral tributes to the departed leader. YSR Congress Party president and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy visited Kirlampudi to pay his respects. Among those present were Kakinada district in-charge Dadisetti Raja, Andhra Pradesh BJP president PVN Madhav, Rajamahendravaram MP Daggubati Purandeswari, BJP district president Bikkina Visweswara Rao, Kakinada TDP president Jyothula Naveen, Jana Sena district president Tummala Ramaswamy, sitting legislators, former ministers, and representatives of Left parties. Supporters, party workers, and well-wishers also arrived in large numbers, reflecting Mudragada Padmanabham’s influence across political and social circles.

Brief Tension During Funeral Proceedings

A brief period of tension was reported during the funeral when Mudragada Padmanabham’s daughter, Kranthi, reached the venue. Some members of the family objected to her presence and requested that she leave the area. The disagreement remained confined to the family, and Kranthi departed from the site after the objections were raised. The funeral rites continued without further disruption.

Mudragada Padmanabham was widely recognised as a prominent Kapu community leader and remained an influential figure in Andhra Pradesh politics for many years.
