Politics – BJP MLA Targets Abhishek Banerjee as TMC Faces Deepening Internal Crisis

Politics – The political atmosphere in West Bengal has become increasingly tense after BJP MLA Arijit Roy launched a sharp attack on Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee while the ruling party continues to grapple with an escalating internal conflict. Roy’s remarks came shortly after the Calcutta High Court declined to grant immediate relief to Banerjee in connection with his request to travel abroad for medical treatment, adding another layer of attention to the ongoing legal and political developments.

BJP MLA Levels Strong Allegations Against Abhishek Banerjee

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Arijit Roy described Abhishek Banerjee as the central figure behind criminal elements in the state and alleged that people in West Bengal believe he is linked to several corruption-related cases. Roy further claimed that any future change in government would lead to a detailed investigation into all alleged irregularities and asserted that Banerjee would eventually face imprisonment. He also remarked that the “countdown” to such legal action had already begun.

Banerjee is currently involved in multiple legal proceedings, including investigations related to the West Bengal primary teachers’ recruitment scam as well as a defamation case registered in Madhya Pradesh. The matters remain under legal consideration.

BJP Claims Trinamool Congress Is Losing Its Political Direction

Roy also criticised the condition of the Trinamool Congress, arguing that the party is experiencing a rapid decline because it lacks ideological clarity and consistent principles. According to him, prolonged years in power without a clear policy framework have weakened the organisation from within.

He further stated that although political setbacks are common, the speed at which the party is facing internal challenges has surprised many observers. Roy claimed that the current developments reflect growing dissatisfaction within the organisation.

Internal Power Struggle Intensifies Within TMC

The controversy comes at a time when the Trinamool Congress is witnessing an intense leadership dispute. A dissident faction led by Leader of Opposition Ritabrata Banerjee recently announced a separate organisational structure, naming senior MLA Arup Roy as the chairperson of what it described as the party’s new leadership.

The rebel camp also unveiled a 30-member National Working Committee and assigned important responsibilities to several senior leaders, including Firhad Hakim, Aroop Biswas, Rathin Ghosh, Sabina Yasmin and Javed Khan. The faction has claimed that it enjoys the backing of a significant number of party legislators and insists that it represents the original identity of the Trinamool Congress.

Mamata Banerjee Camp Responds With Disciplinary Action

The Mamata Banerjee-led leadership responded firmly to the developments by initiating disciplinary proceedings against several senior party members. The party’s disciplinary committee issued show-cause notices accusing them of engaging in activities considered detrimental to the organisation.

Soon after, eight prominent leaders, including Firhad Hakim, Aroop Biswas, Arup Roy, Javed Khan, Rathin Ghosh, Biplab Mitra, Snehasis Chakraborty and Sabina Yasmin, were expelled from the party.

At the same time, Mamata Banerjee took steps to reinforce her position by submitting an official list of office-bearers to the Election Commission, identifying herself as the party chairperson. The move is being viewed as an effort to establish organisational control while the party navigates one of its most significant internal political challenges in recent years.
