Politics – Bhagwant Mann Rejects Viral Video Allegations, Targets Opposition Alliance
Politics – Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday strongly dismissed allegations linked to a controversial viral video, asserting that the footage was fabricated and part of a coordinated political effort to damage his reputation ahead of key political developments in the state.

Mann claimed that the issue was being deliberately amplified by rival political parties and insisted that the video in question did not depict him. According to the Chief Minister, independent examinations had earlier suggested that the footage lacked authenticity, and he accused his opponents of attempting to exploit religious sentiments for political gain.
Mann Alleges Political Campaign Against Him
Speaking through a video message shared on social media platform X, Mann said that several misleading videos had surfaced in recent days as part of what he described as negative political tactics. He argued that opponents were unable to challenge his government’s performance and had therefore resorted to personal attacks.
The Chief Minister stated that the individual seen in the video neither resembled him physically nor matched his mannerisms. He maintained that the allegations being levelled against him were baseless and intended to mislead the public. Mann further said that people had independently questioned the authenticity of the footage after viewing it.
Questions Raised Over Forensic Examination
Mann also addressed the forensic aspect of the controversy, claiming that reports supporting his position had been challenged after political pressure was allegedly exerted on those associated with the testing process.
According to him, certain forensic laboratory operators were being intimidated and pressured into changing their statements. He questioned why one forensic assessment was being dismissed while another was being accepted, arguing that the public would ultimately decide which version of events was credible.
The Chief Minister alleged that leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal had effectively joined forces on the issue. He claimed that the parties feared public criticism after the video’s authenticity came under scrutiny and therefore intensified their campaign against him.
Government Work Will Continue, Says Chief Minister
Despite the controversy, Mann asserted that his administration would remain focused on governance. He said the state government would continue working on major sectors including electricity supply, housing, healthcare facilities and employment opportunities without allowing political distractions to affect its priorities.
He emphasized that public welfare projects would continue at the same pace and reiterated his commitment to delivering services to the people of Punjab.
Gurugram Police Probe Leads to Detentions
The remarks came shortly after Gurugram Police announced action in connection with the alleged fabrication of a forensic report linked to the viral video case.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Naveen Sharma confirmed that two individuals had been detained for questioning. The suspects were identified as Ankit, a cyber specialist reportedly associated with the National Investigation Agency on a contractual basis, and another individual named Arun.
Police officials stated that a complaint had been received alleging the creation and circulation of a manipulated video involving a neighbouring state’s Chief Minister. Investigators claimed that the accused were not operating through any government-recognised forensic laboratory and were involved in preparing and distributing misleading material.
Financial Transactions Under Investigation
According to police statements, the suspects allegedly disclosed during questioning that they had received ₹10 lakh for carrying out the assignment. Investigators are also examining claims that certain officials may have played a role in the matter.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and that further details will emerge after additional verification, including consultations with forensic experts.
Opposition Continues Pressure
Meanwhile, political pressure on Mann has continued to intensify. Leaders from both the BJP and Congress have publicly criticised the Punjab Chief Minister over the controversy and have demanded that he step down from office.
As investigations progress, the dispute has evolved into a significant political flashpoint, with competing claims from government representatives, opposition leaders and law enforcement agencies drawing widespread public attention.
