Politics – Amit Shah Targets Bengal Government Ahead of Key Elections
Politics – Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, accusing it of widespread corruption, administrative failures, and neglect of public welfare during its years in power.

Allegations Against State Leadership
Speaking at multiple campaign rallies across Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar in West Bengal, Shah claimed that the state administration has been marked by irregularities, poor law enforcement, and what he described as appeasement-driven governance. He alleged that such policies had weakened institutional integrity and hindered overall development in the region.
Shah also raised concerns over women’s safety and alleged that incidents of crime have increased under the current government. He said that accountability and effective governance would be key priorities if his party is voted to power in the state.
Focus on Religious and Political Issues
During his speeches, Shah referred to recent political developments involving Humayan Kabir, who has formed a separate political outfit. He alleged that attempts were being made to create communal divisions and claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would not allow any actions that could disturb social harmony.
Referring to the long-standing Ayodhya issue, Shah said that the construction of the Ram temple marked the fulfillment of a historical demand. He credited the central leadership for resolving the matter and described it as a significant moment for many citizens.
Promises on Policy and Welfare Measures
Outlining the BJP’s agenda for West Bengal, Shah spoke about implementing the Uniform Civil Code if the party comes to power in the state. He said the policy would ensure equal legal standards for all citizens and address concerns related to personal laws.
In addition, Shah announced several welfare measures aimed at improving the lives of residents. He stated that state government employees would receive benefits in line with the 7th Pay Commission recommendations, including pending allowances. He also promised financial support for women, including a monthly assistance of ₹3,000, along with free bus travel facilities.
Development Plans for North Bengal
Highlighting regional disparities, Shah alleged that north Bengal has not received adequate attention from the state government. He claimed that financial allocations have been uneven and said the BJP would prioritize infrastructure and economic development in the region.
Among the proposals discussed was a major highway project connecting Darjeeling in the north to the Sundarbans in the south. Shah said such initiatives would improve connectivity, boost tourism, and create employment opportunities.
Warning Ahead of Polling Phase
As the first phase of polling approaches, Shah issued a warning to party workers of the ruling TMC. He stated that any attempt to disrupt the electoral process would be dealt with strictly after the results are declared. Emphasizing the importance of free and fair elections, he urged voters to participate without fear.
Political Atmosphere Intensifies
With elections drawing closer, political campaigning in West Bengal has intensified, with leaders from all major parties stepping up their outreach efforts. Shah’s remarks reflect the broader contest between competing narratives on governance, development, and social policies in the state.
The coming days are expected to see further rallies and announcements as parties seek to consolidate support across regions and communities. The outcome of the elections will play a crucial role in shaping the political landscape of West Bengal
