PoliceMisconduct – Chennai Staff Association Seeks Action Over DIG Misconduct Allegation
PoliceMisconduct – A fresh controversy has emerged within the Tamil Nadu police administration after a ministerial staff association accused a senior police officer of allegedly assaulting a junior employee during office hours at the Armed Reserve headquarters in Chennai. The incident has triggered strong reactions from staff members, who have demanded disciplinary action and an official apology.

According to a resolution adopted by the Tamil Nadu Police Ministerial Staff Association on May 13, the incident involved Deputy Inspector General M Vijayalakshmi and junior assistant C Vignesh. The association alleged that the confrontation took place inside the office premises following a disagreement related to an e-office file number.
Dispute Reportedly Began Over File Number Issue
The association stated that the incident occurred at around 3.10 pm on May 11 while Vignesh was carrying out routine administrative work. During the interaction, the DIG reportedly questioned him regarding an electronic office file number that she was dissatisfied with.
As per the resolution, the exchange soon turned heated. The association alleged that the officer verbally reprimanded the junior assistant in front of other police personnel and ministerial staff members. It further claimed that the officer threatened disciplinary proceedings against the employee during the argument.
The allegations did not stop there. The association stated that the DIG allegedly slapped the staff member and later removed her footwear and threw it at him inside the office premises. The incident, according to the resolution, caused humiliation and emotional distress to the employee.
Staff Association Raises Serious Concerns
Following the alleged episode, the junior assistant is said to have informed higher authorities and submitted a written complaint requesting appropriate action. The association described the matter as serious and said the incident had created anxiety among ministerial staff working under the officer.
In its resolution, the association claimed that this was not the first time employees had faced difficulties while working in the office environment. It alleged that staff members had been functioning under constant pressure due to the officer’s behavior.
The document also mentioned allegations concerning office administration procedures. According to the association, files linked to salary matters and administrative approvals were allegedly torn by the officer whenever she was dissatisfied with file numbering or related documentation.
Demand for Transfer and Departmental Inquiry
The Tamil Nadu Police Ministerial Staff Association has now formally demanded the transfer of the DIG from the current posting. It has also sought departmental action against the officer and requested that a public apology be issued to the affected employee and other staff members.
Association members argued that maintaining a respectful workplace is essential in government offices, especially in departments where administrative staff work closely with senior officials on sensitive matters. They urged authorities to ensure that employees can carry out their duties without fear or intimidation.
The resolution has reportedly been circulated among senior officials for further review. However, there has been no official announcement yet regarding any inquiry or disciplinary proceedings connected to the allegations.
DIG Declines Public Comment on Allegations
When approached regarding the claims made in the resolution, DIG M Vijayalakshmi declined to discuss the matter publicly. She stated that higher authorities had already been informed about the incident and added that she did not wish to comment further.
The development has drawn attention within administrative circles, as the allegations involve workplace conduct inside a senior police office. Officials are expected to review the representations submitted by the association and the concerned employee before deciding on any future course of action.
