Police Accountability – Jagan Alleges Political Misuse of Andhra Pradesh Police

Police Accountability –  Andhra Pradesh political developments remained in focus on Sunday after YSR Congress Party president and former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy accused the Chandrababu Naidu-led government of weakening policing standards and using the system to target political opponents.

Jagan alleges political misuse andhra police

Jagan, in a post on X, alleged that the State administration was allowing a troubling culture to develop within law enforcement. He claimed that serious public safety concerns were not receiving timely attention, while action against critics of the government was being pursued aggressively.

Concerns Raised Over Missing Child Case

Referring to the disappearance of a child from the Tuni Assembly constituency, Jagan said authorities had yet to trace Gnaneshwari more than a month after she reportedly went missing. The case is linked to the Kakinada district region.

He questioned why the investigation had not produced any visible breakthrough and said cases involving missing children required swift and sustained police action. Jagan argued that delays in such matters create anxiety among families and raise wider concerns about public safety.

Allegations Regarding Crimes Against Women

The former chief minister also referred to complaints involving women and girls, alleging that police were not acting with the required urgency in some cases. He cited an alleged sexual assault case involving a mentally challenged girl in Peddapuram, claiming there had been hesitation in registering a complaint.

Jagan further mentioned an incident involving a tribal woman, alleging that despite reports of assault and humiliation, no arrests had been made. He said the government needed to ensure that complaints related to violence against women were handled promptly and without discrimination.

His remarks reflected the YSRCP’s broader criticism of the State government’s law-and-order approach since the change in administration.

YouTuber Joseph Case Mentioned

In his post, Jagan also referred to cases involving YouTuber Joseph. He alleged that despite Joseph obtaining bail in several cases, authorities continued to take harsh action against him.

Jagan claimed that police stations were targeted following court decisions granting bail and alleged that severe provisions were invoked in the matter. He described the action as an example of what he called political intolerance.

The YSRCP leader said political leaders should be open to criticism and should not use legal or police mechanisms to respond to dissent. He alleged that the government was creating an environment in which those raising questions faced pressure.

Political Exchange Expected to Continue

The comments are likely to add to the ongoing political confrontation between the YSRCP and the Telugu Desam Party-led government in Andhra Pradesh. Jagan named Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and Minister Nara Lokesh while alleging that the ruling alliance had adopted a selective approach towards criticism.

The ruling side has not issued a detailed response to the allegations mentioned in Jagan’s post. The claims remain part of a wider political dispute over governance, law enforcement and public accountability in the State.

As the debate continues, the cases cited by Jagan are expected to draw attention to the need for transparent investigations, timely registration of complaints and equal enforcement of the law.
