OilPrices – Fuel Rates Rise Again Across Major Indian Cities
OilPrices – Fuel prices across several major Indian cities moved up again on Saturday, marking the third increase within a span of less than two weeks. The latest revision comes as international crude oil markets continue to remain unstable due to ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

In the national capital, petrol became costlier by 87 paise per litre, pushing the retail price to Rs 99.51. Diesel rates also climbed by 91 paise, reaching Rs 92.49 per litre. Similar increases were recorded in other metropolitan regions as oil companies adjusted prices in response to higher global crude costs.
Fresh Increase Seen in Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai
Kolkata recorded one of the sharpest hikes among metro cities. Petrol prices there went up by 94 paise and were revised to Rs 110.64 per litre. Diesel prices also saw a rise of 95 paise, taking the rate to Rs 97.02 per litre.
In Mumbai, petrol became dearer by 90 paise and touched Rs 108.49 per litre. Diesel prices in the financial capital rose by 94 paise to Rs 95.02 per litre.
Chennai also witnessed another upward revision. Petrol prices increased by 82 paise to Rs 105.31 per litre, while diesel rates rose by 87 paise, reaching Rs 96.98 per litre.
Consecutive Fuel Revisions Within Days
The latest increase follows another round of price hikes introduced earlier this week. On Tuesday, fuel rates had already been revised upward in several cities.
At that time, Delhi saw petrol prices rise from Rs 97.77 to Rs 98.64 per litre, while diesel rates increased from Rs 90.67 to Rs 91.58 per litre. Mumbai had also recorded a notable rise, with petrol reaching Rs 107.59 per litre and diesel touching Rs 94.08 per litre after the revision.
Chennai and Kolkata had similarly experienced significant increases during the earlier adjustment. Petrol prices in Kolkata had climbed to Rs 109.70 per litre, while diesel crossed Rs 96 per litre.
Jaipur Also Witnessed Upward Revision
Apart from metro cities, Jaipur also saw fuel becoming more expensive during the previous revision cycle. Petrol prices in the Rajasthan capital increased by 94 paise per litre, while diesel rose by 92 paise.
Following that increase, petrol in Jaipur was priced at Rs 108.91 per litre and diesel at Rs 94.15 per litre. Consumers in several states are now closely watching future revisions as transport and daily living costs continue to be affected.
The government had earlier increased fuel prices.
Earlier this month, on May 15, the central government had announced a nationwide increase of Rs 3 per litre each on petrol and diesel. That revision had already added pressure on household budgets and transportation expenses across the country.
Industry experts believe the continued rise in international crude oil prices is directly impacting domestic fuel rates. Oil marketing companies review prices based on global crude movements, exchange rates and supply-related developments.
Global Tensions Continue to Impact Oil Market
The recent fuel price hikes are taking place against the backdrop of growing uncertainty in global energy markets. The ongoing conflict involving the US, Israel and Iran has intensified concerns regarding crude oil supply routes in West Asia.
The Strait of Hormuz, considered one of the world’s most important maritime oil transport corridors, has faced disruptions due to regional tensions. The situation has increased fears of supply interruptions in global energy trade.
Brent crude prices have remained above the USD 100 per barrel mark amid the conflict and diplomatic negotiations related to a possible ceasefire. Several West Asian nations affected by the crisis are major fuel exporters, adding to concerns in importing countries.
India Says Fuel Supplies Remain Stable
Despite rising international prices and global uncertainty, Indian authorities have maintained that there is no immediate shortage of fuel in the country. Officials have stated that energy reserves and supply chains remain stable, and adequate stock is available to meet domestic demand.
Meanwhile, repeated appeals for fuel conservation are also being made as governments worldwide attempt to manage the impact of the ongoing energy crisis.
