MilitaryAcademy – Historic Passing Out Parade Marks New Chapter at IMA
MilitaryAcademy – President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday reviewed the Spring Term 2026 Passing Out Parade at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun, an event that marked the successful completion of training for hundreds of future military officers. Held at the iconic Chetwode Building Drill Square, the ceremony brought together military officials, dignitaries, and families to celebrate the achievements of the graduating cadets. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was also present during the event.

Hundreds of Cadets Commissioned Into Service
A total of 515 Gentleman and Lady Cadets formally entered the ranks of the Indian Army after completing their training at the Academy. Among them were nine women cadets who successfully completed the programme and earned their commissions. The graduating class also included 34 foreign officer cadets representing 16 friendly nations, who will now return to serve in the armed forces of their respective countries.
Landmark Moment for Women in Military Training
This year’s ceremony will be remembered as a significant milestone in the history of the Indian Military Academy. For the first time since the institution was established, a group of women officer cadets completed their training at the Academy and received commissions alongside their male counterparts.
The nine women cadets, who joined the Academy in July 2025, underwent the same rigorous military preparation and participated in the parade as members of the graduating contingent. Their successful completion of training reflects the growing opportunities available to women within India’s defence forces and highlights the continuing evolution of military leadership.
More Than a Ceremonial Event
For every graduating cadet, the Passing Out Parade represents the final step in a demanding journey that requires discipline, dedication, and perseverance. The ceremony serves as the culmination of months of intensive military instruction and field preparation, transforming trainees into commissioned officers ready to assume leadership responsibilities within the Army.
Military officials often regard the parade as one of the most important traditions at the Academy, symbolizing both personal achievement and commitment to national service.
A Proud Legacy of Military Leadership
Founded on October 1, 1932, the Indian Military Academy has played a central role in shaping generations of military leaders. Over the decades, the institution has earned a reputation as one of the country’s premier training establishments for Army officers.
Since its inception, the Academy has produced more than 65,000 graduates, including cadets from numerous partner nations. Its alumni have gone on to serve in key leadership positions across military formations in India and abroad.
Historic Day in the Academy’s 94-Year Journey
The Spring Term 2026 Passing Out Parade stands out as a defining chapter in the Academy’s long history. While continuing its tradition of producing military leaders, the institution has also reached a new milestone by commissioning its first batch of women officers trained within its campus.
The occasion highlighted both the Academy’s enduring heritage and its adaptation to a changing military landscape, reinforcing its role in preparing future leaders for the challenges of modern defence service.
