Manipur security forces arrest militants

Arrests Conducted Across Three Districts

The arrests were made on Friday in separate operations spanning Imphal West, Imphal East, and Bishnupur districts. Police officials confirmed that two of those taken into custody are believed to be active members of the outlawed Kangleipak Communist Party (Apunba). They were apprehended during targeted operations in Imphal West and Imphal East.

In a separate action, security personnel arrested another individual suspected of being associated with the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK). He was taken into custody from his residence in Moirang Khunou, located in Bishnupur district.

Authorities did not disclose further personal details of the suspects but stated that the arrests were part of ongoing efforts to curb militant activity in the region.

Arms and Explosives Seized in Hill Operation

Alongside the arrests, security forces carried out a search operation in the Khulsaibung hill range in Tengnoupal district. During the combing exercise, personnel recovered a cache of weapons and explosive materials believed to have been concealed in the area.

According to the police statement, the seized items included a single-barrel firearm, two pistols, and eight improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The recovery of IEDs has raised concerns among officials, as such devices have previously been used in attacks targeting both security forces and civilians.

The operation in Tengnoupal was conducted as part of intensified surveillance and area domination exercises aimed at dismantling hidden militant infrastructure.

Ongoing Security Measures in the State

Manipur has witnessed periodic security challenges linked to insurgent outfits operating in parts of the state. Law enforcement agencies, along with central security forces, have continued to carry out intelligence-based operations to prevent unlawful activities and maintain public order.

Officials emphasized that coordinated action and community cooperation remain critical to ensuring stability. The recent arrests and seizure of arms are being viewed as part of a broader strategy to disrupt networks that attempt to regroup or reorganize.

Security personnel have increased patrolling in sensitive areas, particularly in districts where militant presence has been reported in the past. Authorities have also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement or activity to the nearest police station.

Investigation Underway

Police confirmed that further investigation is underway to determine whether the arrested individuals were involved in recent incidents or planning unlawful activities. Interrogation and verification procedures are being carried out in accordance with legal protocols.

Officials said that efforts are ongoing to trace the origin of the seized weapons and identify any additional collaborators. The recovered explosives will undergo forensic examination to assess their composition and intended use.

While no immediate threat has been reported following the operation, security agencies have reiterated their commitment to preventing any disruption to peace and normal life in the state.

The authorities have maintained that proactive intelligence gathering and swift response remain key components of their approach to countering militancy. They also noted that such operations will continue as part of a sustained campaign to uphold law and order across Manipur.
