Emergency Alert Triggers Rescue Coordination

The incident took place on June 8 when the Palau-registered tanker MT Marivex was anchored near Masirah Island in Oman. The ship had a crew of 24 Indian citizens at the time of the reported attack.

Indian authorities became aware of the situation after the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai received information from a family member of one of the crew members aboard the vessel. Following the alert, officials immediately began assessing the situation and initiated communication with their counterparts in Oman.

Joint Efforts Between India and Oman

Soon after receiving details of the emergency, MRCC Mumbai established contact with the Oman Maritime Search and Rescue Centre (OMSC). Indian authorities requested urgent support and asked Omani agencies to take charge of the rescue mission due to the vessel’s location within Oman’s maritime region.

Rescue teams in Oman responded without delay. Authorities redirected a nearby vessel toward the affected area and deployed two helicopters to assist with the evacuation process. Throughout the operation, rescue coordinators from both countries remained in constant communication to monitor developments and ensure a swift response.

Crew Members Evacuated Without Injury

Later the same day, OMSC confirmed that all 24 Indian crew members had been successfully removed from the tanker. The evacuation was conducted using helicopters operated by the Oman Navy.

Officials reported that every crew member was rescued safely, with no injuries or fatalities recorded during the operation. The successful extraction brought relief to the families of those working aboard the vessel and highlighted the effectiveness of emergency maritime response systems in the region.

Tanker Remains at Anchor

While the crew has been evacuated, the MT Marivex continues to remain anchored near Masirah. Authorities have not released further details regarding the vessel’s condition or any ongoing assessment of the reported attack.

Maritime agencies are expected to continue monitoring the situation as relevant authorities examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Importance of Regional Maritime Cooperation

The Indian Coast Guard stated that the operation demonstrated the value of close cooperation between neighboring maritime rescue organizations. Officials noted that effective communication and coordinated action between India and Oman played a crucial role in ensuring the safe evacuation of all crew members.

The incident also underscores the importance of maintaining strong international rescue networks in busy shipping routes, where rapid response capabilities can make a significant difference during emergencies at sea.
