ManipurSecurity – Security Forces Intensify Hill Operations, Recover Arms Cache

ManipurSecurity –  Security personnel have stepped up operations across Manipur, leading to the detention of armed individuals, recovery of weapons, and arrests linked to insurgent activities in different districts.

Manipur security arms cache operation

The security operation was carried out in the Horei Kaphung Hills, also known as the Lower Leishan Ridge, after authorities received intelligence reports suggesting that armed groups were preparing to target remote settlements located in the hill region. Acting on the information, security teams launched a coordinated mission in the area on Wednesday.

Armed Individuals Detained During Hill Operation

During the search operation, security personnel spotted a group of armed individuals positioned on elevated terrain. While several managed to escape from the location, eight people were intercepted and taken into custody. Officials said the individuals were disarmed immediately.

After questioning, the detainees were released with a strict warning against entering restricted hill zones while carrying weapons. Authorities emphasized that possession of arms and unauthorized movement in the area violate existing security regulations.

Large Stockpile of Weapons Recovered

The operation also resulted in the discovery of a substantial quantity of arms, ammunition, and other military-related materials. These items were reportedly stored inside unauthorized bunkers constructed on hilltops.

Security agencies stated that such recoveries are part of ongoing efforts to prevent violence and maintain stability in vulnerable regions. Officials reiterated that similar operations will continue in order to protect local communities and reduce security threats in conflict-prone areas.

Multiple Arrests in Separate Operations

Earlier this month, security forces conducted a series of coordinated actions across different parts of Manipur, leading to the arrest of several individuals allegedly linked to insurgent organizations.

According to police officials, two active members associated with Valley-Based Insurgent Groups were apprehended from the BP 81 area under the jurisdiction of Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal district. The arrested individuals were identified as Ningthoujam Thourangba, also known by the aliases Dingku and Goro, and Ahongshangbam Momocha Singh, known as Paikhomba.

Investigators stated that both individuals were linked to the banned People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak-Progressive faction. Authorities have initiated further legal proceedings in connection with the case.

PLA Member Arrested in Kakching District

In another operation conducted on June 5, security personnel arrested Huidrom Boyboy Singh from Kakching district. Officials identified him as an active member of the People’s Liberation Army.

According to investigators, he was allegedly involved in activities related to arms trafficking and the circulation of militant propaganda. Authorities claimed that he participated in distributing banners, flags, and other materials associated with the organization in various locations.

Several items considered relevant to the investigation were recovered during the operation, police sources said.

Additional Militant Cadre Taken Into Custody

On the same day, another operation led to the arrest of Thangjam Diya Singh, also known as Manimatum, from Imphal West district. Officials stated that he was affiliated with the KCP (MFL) group.

Security personnel reportedly recovered multiple materials from his possession that are expected to aid the ongoing investigation. Authorities continue to examine the seized items while pursuing further leads linked to insurgent networks operating in the state.

Police and security agencies have maintained that coordinated enforcement actions will continue across Manipur as part of broader efforts to curb militant activities, prevent illegal arms movement, and strengthen public safety in affected areas.
