Liquor Tenders – The Andhra Pradesh High Court has asked the Crime Investigation Department to submit full records connected to a case involving former government adviser Kesireddy Rajasekhar Reddy and liquor transportation tenders.
Reddy, listed as the fourth accused in the CID case, has moved the High Court seeking to have the proceedings set aside. He has also requested protection from arrest or other coercive steps while his petition is under consideration.
Court seeks complete investigation details
The petition was heard on Thursday by Justice Dr Yadavalli Lakshmana Rao. During the hearing, the court directed the investigating officer to place the complete case material before it.
The court did not issue a final order on Reddy’s request at this stage. It adjourned the matter until next week after directing the CID to provide the required information.
The case concerns allegations linked to liquor transportation tender arrangements. Reddy’s petition challenges the decision to register a separate criminal case in connection with those transactions.
Petitioner questions separate FIR
In his plea, Reddy argued that the liquor transportation tenders matter forms part of the broader investigation into the alleged liquor scam. According to his submission, the transactions being examined in the present case are connected to the same overall set of allegations already under investigation.
He contended that the CID should not treat the tender-related allegations as an independent criminal matter if they arise from the same transactions covered by the wider probe.
Reddy’s legal challenge is based on the argument that separate cases should not be registered repeatedly over the same alleged offence or sequence of events. His petition says such action is not legally sustainable.
Liberty concerns raised in petition
The former adviser also told the court that multiple FIRs over the same transaction could affect his constitutional protections, including personal liberty.
He alleged that authorities were filing successive cases and seeking to question him in custody over matters that, according to him, stem from the same set of facts. The petition asks the court to examine whether the separate CID case can continue in its present form.
Reddy has sought an order quashing the case registered against him. Until the petition is decided, he has asked the court to halt further proceedings and prevent any arrest or other coercive action.
Next hearing scheduled for next week
The High Court is expected to consider the matter further after the CID submits the requested case records. The documents may help the court assess the petitioner’s claim that the tender case overlaps with the broader liquor scam investigation.
The CID’s response and the material placed before the court will be important in determining whether the proceedings should continue separately or whether Reddy’s objections require further judicial consideration.
No final finding has been made by the High Court on the allegations or on the petitioner’s request. The case remains pending, with the next hearing scheduled for next week.
