Raj Singh, who was taken into custody during the investigation, said he faced severe mental distress after police allegedly arrested him without verifying his identity. According to Singh, he had travelled to Ayodhya with his mother for religious purposes and was returning home when a police team detained him.

Allegations of Wrongful Detention

Speaking after his release, Singh maintained that officials confused him with another individual bearing a similar name. He alleged that authorities failed to present proof during the arrest and instead attempted to pressure him into accepting involvement in the murder case.

Singh further claimed that he was threatened during interrogation and feared for his safety throughout the investigation process. He said the situation left him constantly worried about being falsely implicated in a criminal case despite having no connection to the incident.

According to him, the matter intensified after he was taken to Kolkata, where he alleged that investigators continued to push him to admit guilt. Singh accused the investigative team of trying to portray him as a criminal despite a lack of evidence.

CBI Investigation Brings Relief

The case took a major turn after the Central Bureau of Investigation reportedly reviewed the evidence and concluded that Raj Singh had no role in the murder of Chandranath Rath. Sources linked to the investigation stated that the agency submitted an application before the court clarifying that Singh was not connected to the case.

Officials familiar with the probe indicated that the arrest happened because of mistaken identity involving another person with a similar name. Following the agency’s findings, Singh was released from custody.

Expressing relief after his release, Singh thanked the CBI for conducting what he described as an impartial investigation. He also appealed to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to examine the circumstances surrounding his arrest and take action against the officials involved.

Political and Social Background Mentioned

During his remarks, Singh said his family had longstanding ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party. He stated that both he and his father had been associated with the party and that he was also linked to the Kshatriya Mahasabha.

However, Singh claimed that he did not receive support from any organisation during the period of his detention. He described spending several nights in fear, worried that he could face further legal trouble despite insisting on his innocence.

Fresh Arrests in Rath Murder Investigation

Meanwhile, the broader investigation into Chandranath Rath’s killing continues. According to CBI sources, another suspect has recently been arrested with assistance from the Uttar Pradesh Police after intelligence inputs were shared by the agency.

The accused has reportedly been booked under the Arms Act, and officials also recovered weapons during the operation. Investigators believe the arrests could help uncover additional details connected to the murder conspiracy.

Earlier, the CBI had arrested Vinay Rai from Varanasi in connection with the same case. Another accused, identified as Rajkumar, was detained in Muzaffarnagar with support from local police authorities. Investigators suspect that Rajkumar may have played the role of the primary shooter in the incident.
