A police team from Jagatpuri police station reached the location shortly after receiving the alert and began an initial inquiry.
The victim’s mother later filed a complaint, following which a case was registered. Investigators examined the room where the incident reportedly took place and spoke with family members and others present in the house at the time.
Dispute Reportedly Began Over Mobile Phone
Police said the accused, identified as Alisha, told investigators that an argument began after her husband allegedly suspected her of having an extramarital relationship. During the night, he reportedly took her mobile phone and started checking it in an attempt to find evidence supporting his suspicion.
The issue reportedly escalated into a heated confrontation between the couple. Police said the woman alleged that she was assaulted during the argument. The exact sequence of events is being examined as part of the investigation.
Alleged Strangulation During Argument
According to Shahdara Deputy Commissioner of Police Meena, the woman allegedly acted during the dispute by sitting on her husband’s chest and strangling him with her dupatta. The incident is believed to have occurred inside a room at the Rashid Market residence.
Police said the victim’s mother entered the room after the incident and found her son in an unconscious condition. He was immediately taken for medical treatment, but hospital authorities declared him brought dead.
The police have not released further details regarding the medical examination. A post-mortem examination is expected to help investigators establish the precise cause of death and determine whether there were any additional injuries.
Accused Located After Leaving Residence
After the victim’s mother entered the room, Alisha allegedly left the house. Police said she later hid at a gurdwara in an apparent attempt to avoid being found. She was subsequently traced and taken into custody.
Officials said the accused is being questioned in connection with the case. Police are also reviewing statements from relatives and other people who may have information about the couple’s relationship and the events leading up to the alleged crime.
