Housing – Amaravati Journalists Renew Call for Long-Pending Apartment Project

Housing –  Senior journalists from print and electronic media have urged Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to begin work on the long-awaited Amaravati Journalists’ Housing Project without further delay. The appeal was made during a meeting convened by the Amaravati Journalists Housing Society on Sunday.

Amaravati journalists housing project renewed call

Society Seeks Implementation of Earlier Government Orders

Members at the meeting unanimously adopted a resolution asking the State Government to act on previous decisions related to housing for accredited journalists in the capital region. They said the project had remained pending despite land allotment and subsequent government orders outlining the proposed residential development.

The participants said the housing initiative was intended to provide suitable accommodation for journalists working in and around Amaravati, where several government offices and public institutions are expected to expand their operations as capital development activities gather pace.

Land Allotment and Apartment Plan Recalled

The journalists noted that the earlier Telugu Desam Party government had allotted 30 acres of land to the society through G.O. Ms No. 67 issued in 2019. The land was later transferred to the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority for the construction of multi-storeyed apartment blocks.

They also referred to G.O. Ms No. 107, under which the government had proposed apartments for journalists in four separate categories. The plan was linked to the HappiNest housing model, which was designed to offer organised residential facilities within the Amaravati capital area.

According to the society members, the project has yet to move into the execution stage even though the policy framework and land arrangements were completed earlier. They said beginning construction would address the housing needs of many media professionals associated with the capital city.

Progress in Amaravati Housing Projects Cited

During the discussion, speakers pointed out that HappiNest and other housing developments are now moving ahead in Amaravati. They said this was an appropriate time for the government to revive and implement the journalists’ housing scheme as well.

The meeting expressed the view that a dedicated housing project would support journalists who regularly cover government administration, legislative developments, public policy and capital-region issues. Participants said access to housing near the workplace could help media professionals carry out their responsibilities more effectively.

They urged the authorities to prepare a clear implementation schedule, complete pending administrative procedures and begin construction at the earliest possible stage. The society also requested regular coordination between the government, CRDA officials and representatives of the journalists’ body.

Resolutions Support Capital Development Efforts

Apart from the housing demand, the gathering passed resolutions on other issues connected with Amaravati’s development. The members thanked the Union Government for recognising Amaravati as the capital of Andhra Pradesh through legal measures.

They also appreciated the State Government’s efforts to speed up infrastructure and capital-related works in the region. The journalists welcomed educational institutions, businesses and other organisations that have begun establishing operations in Amaravati, saying their presence could contribute to the city’s growth.

The meeting noted that the expansion of institutions and residential projects could create a stronger urban ecosystem in the capital region. It said continued investment in public infrastructure, housing and civic services would be important for Amaravati’s planned development.

Senior Journalists Reiterate Appeal

Amaravati Journalists Housing Society Secretary Patibandla Naga Srinivasa Rao, Director Chava Ravi and several senior journalists attended the meeting. They reiterated that the housing project should be treated as a priority and implemented in line with the earlier government orders.

The society said it would continue to pursue the matter with the concerned departments and seek clarity on the next steps. Members expressed hope that the government would respond positively and take an early decision on launching the apartment project.
