HotelFire – Delhi Hotel Blaze Claims Eight Lives From Visiting Family

HotelFire – A family’s visit to the national capital to check on an ailing relative ended in heartbreak after a devastating fire at a hotel in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar on Wednesday morning claimed the lives of eight family members from Gurugram.

Hotel fire delhi family tragedy

The victims were staying at a hotel located close to a major healthcare facility where a senior member of the family was undergoing treatment. The fire broke out during the early hours, trapping occupants inside and leaving little opportunity for escape. Despite emergency efforts, all eight members of the family lost their lives.

Family Gathering Ends in Tragedy

Among those who died was 47-year-old chartered accountant Vivek Agarwal, a resident of Sector 46 in Gurugram. He had travelled to Delhi along with several family members to visit his father, Radhe Shyam Agarwal, who was admitted to a nearby hospital for medical care. The hotel where the family was staying was situated only a short distance from the hospital.

The deceased also included Vivek’s mother Premlata, his wife Tarini Agarwal, 42, daughters Angel (also known as Jivisa), 17, and Pearl (also known as Baria), 20, as well as close relatives Kamla Goyal, Jhumri Lal Goyal, and Ashok Goyal. Family members said one of the young girls had recently completed her Class 10 board examinations.

Relatives Had Arrived Hours Before Fire

According to relatives, elderly family members Jhumri Lal Goyal and Kamla Goyal had reached Delhi from Ajmer around 4 a.m. and checked into the hotel shortly before the incident. The family had reportedly reserved two rooms on the first floor, the same area where the fire later spread rapidly.

The group had planned to meet Vivek Agarwal’s father during their stay. However, the tragedy unfolded before they could visit him at the hospital.

Family Learns of Incident Through News Reports

A relative described the shock that followed as family members attempted to trace their loved ones after hearing reports about the blaze.

The relative said that conversations with Vivek Agarwal had taken place the previous evening regarding his father’s health condition. After seeing news reports about a fire in Malviya Nagar, family members gradually realized that the affected hotel was the one where their relatives were staying. They immediately travelled to Delhi and later reached the hospital where victims had been taken, only to discover that none had survived.

Confusion During Search for Victims

Another family member alleged that there was considerable confusion while relatives tried to identify and locate those injured in the incident.

According to the relative, repeated requests were made to gain access to treatment areas after initial information suggested that most patients admitted there were foreign nationals. During the search, one of Vivek Agarwal’s daughters was eventually identified, following which hospital staff reportedly acknowledged an error in communication and expressed regret over the misunderstanding.

Grief Across Hospital and Mortuary Premises

Throughout the day, emotional scenes unfolded at both the hospital and the mortuary where family members gathered to receive updates and complete formalities. More than 20 relatives were present, with many struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss.

Authorities coordinated procedures related to the victims while relatives moved between facilities seeking information and support.

Community Remembers a Respected Resident

Back in Gurugram, neighbours and acquaintances remembered Vivek Agarwal as a helpful and community-focused individual. Residents said he frequently participated in local welfare activities and was widely respected in the neighbourhood.

Neighbours also recalled that his wife, Tarini Agarwal, was actively involved in social work through a non-governmental organisation. The sudden loss of the family has left friends, neighbours, and relatives deeply saddened.
