Hospitality – Assam-Based Hotel Brand Charts Nationwide Expansion With New Investments
Hospitality – Assam’s hospitality sector is witnessing a major transformation as regional hotel brands increasingly look beyond state borders to strengthen their presence across the country.

The Poddar Group, a business house headquartered in Assam, has announced an ambitious expansion strategy worth nearly Rs 800 crore aimed at strengthening its hospitality operations over the next ten years. The company plans to establish 10 new hotel properties, with a strong focus on the Northeast while also entering key markets in other parts of India.
Expansion Plans Extend Beyond Northeast India
The group revealed that its hospitality brand, Hotel Palacio, will gradually move into larger metropolitan markets beginning with Kolkata. Company officials said the decision reflects growing confidence in the brand’s ability to compete nationally while maintaining its regional identity.
Speaking during the inauguration of the company’s latest property in Guwahati, Poddar Group chairman Anup Poddar said the Northeast has undergone major economic and infrastructural changes in recent years. According to him, rising travel demand, improved connectivity, and changing consumer expectations have created strong opportunities for quality hospitality services in the region.
He noted that the company intends to grow carefully while preserving the cultural and business values associated with Assam.
New Hotel Strengthens Presence in Guwahati
Hotel Palacio officially opened its second property in Guwahati’s Paltan Bazar area on Thursday. With this launch, the hospitality brand now operates three hotels in total. Apart from the two Guwahati properties, the company also runs a hotel in Alipurduar, West Bengal.
Company representatives described Guwahati as an important centre for both tourism and business activity in the Northeast. They believe the city’s strategic location continues to attract transit travellers, corporate visitors, and leisure tourists throughout the year.
The newly launched property is expected to cater to growing demand from domestic travellers as well as business guests visiting the region for trade and commercial activities.
Focus on Regional Identity and Long-Term Growth
During the event, Poddar said the long-term objective is to position Hotel Palacio among the country’s respected hospitality brands originating from Assam. He added that the company wants future expansion to reflect the culture and identity of the Northeast rather than simply adopting a conventional hotel business model.
Industry observers say the move reflects a broader trend in which businesses from Northeast India are increasingly investing in sectors such as hospitality, tourism, and infrastructure beyond their traditional markets.
The company also indicated that while the Northeast remains central to its growth plans, entering Kolkata could serve as a stepping stone for expansion into additional Indian cities in the coming years.
Rising Demand Drives Hospitality Investments
The hospitality sector across Northeast India has seen noticeable growth due to improved air connectivity, expanding tourism circuits, and increasing corporate movement. Guwahati, in particular, has emerged as a major commercial gateway for the region, attracting investment from both local and national companies.
Business analysts believe that regional hotel operators are now finding greater opportunities to scale operations as visitor numbers continue to rise. The expansion announced by the Poddar Group is being viewed as part of this larger shift in the industry.
With multiple projects planned over the next decade, the company is expected to increase its footprint steadily while targeting markets that show sustained demand for premium accommodation and hospitality services.
