Health – RML Hospital Clarifies MLC Findings, Rejects Gunshot Injury Claims
Health –Dr Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital has issued a detailed clarification after misleading claims circulated regarding the Medico-Legal Case (MLC) of a woman who was brought to the hospital following the July 20 protest in Central Delhi. The hospital emphasized that an MLC records the patient’s version of events at the time of admission and should not be treated as the final medical diagnosis. Officials said the clinical findings made by doctors are the authoritative basis for determining the nature of any injury.
Hospital Explains Difference Between MLC and Clinical Diagnosis
According to the hospital, the 32-year-old woman was admitted on July 20, 2026. At the time of registration, the MLC included the injury history as narrated by the patient, which referred to an ear injury. However, doctors who examined her found a lacerated wound on the ear during the physical assessment. The wound was treated with sutures, and after receiving the required medical care, the patient was discharged in a stable condition.
Hospital authorities stressed that the MLC contains two separate components: the patient’s reported history and the findings recorded by the examining doctor. They clarified that these should not be confused, as the clinical examination provides the final medical assessment.
Medical Examination Found No Evidence of Gunshot Injury
Delhi Police also released an official statement addressing claims circulating on social media that a protester had suffered a bullet injury during the July 20 demonstration in Central Delhi. After reviewing the available medical records, police stated that there was no evidence supporting those allegations.
Officials referred to the hospital’s MLC findings, which described the injury as a lacerated wound located near the front of the right tragus. Doctors classified it as a simple injury caused by blunt force, with no indication of damage consistent with a firearm-related incident.
Authorities Urge Public to Verify Information
In a statement shared on the social media platform X, Delhi Police urged people to rely on verified information instead of forwarding unconfirmed claims. The department said that the medical documents do not support reports suggesting that the woman sustained a gunshot wound during the protest.
Police added that spreading inaccurate information can create unnecessary confusion and encouraged citizens to confirm facts through official sources before sharing content online. Authorities reiterated that the hospital’s medical findings remain the primary evidence regarding the nature of the injury.
Update on Another Patient Receiving Treatment
Separately, RML Hospital had earlier provided an update on the condition of a 21-year-old woman who was injured during the Cockroach Janata Party protest on July 20. The hospital reported on July 22 that her health had shown significant improvement following treatment.
Doctors confirmed that she had been successfully removed from ventilator support and was breathing independently. She was conscious, responding appropriately to medical instructions, and her MRI scans of both the brain and spine showed normal results.
The hospital stated that her recovery has continued steadily under the supervision of the treating medical team. At present, she remains the only patient admitted to RML Hospital in connection with the reported protest incident. Officials said she is receiving continuous monitoring along with all necessary medical care to support her recovery.
