Police Act on Intelligence About Armed Vehicle

Police said the incident began after the Crime Branch received information about a suspicious SUV moving through the area with armed occupants. Multiple teams were deployed, and barricades were placed at key points to stop the vehicle and prevent the suspects from leaving the locality.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Dharmveer Singh said the police response was launched at around 9:30 pm. By the time officers reached the area and arranged the blockade, the suspects had allegedly fired at the home of a local businessman.

Extortion Threats Under Investigation

Investigators believe the businessman had been receiving extortion demands linked to a wanted gangster believed to be operating from outside India. Police said the firing at his residence was allegedly carried out after those demands were not fulfilled.

The case is being examined as part of a wider investigation into extortion calls and threats allegedly made in the name of overseas-based criminal networks. Officers are reviewing available evidence to determine the exact role of each suspect in the attack.

Gunfire Breaks Out During Escape Attempt

According to police, Crime Branch teams surrounded the suspects and asked them to surrender. The armed men allegedly responded by firing at the police in an effort to escape from the area.

Police personnel returned fire, leading to a prolonged gun battle. Officials said the exchange involved approximately 60 rounds. During the operation, all five suspects suffered gunshot injuries.

They were taken to a private super-speciality hospital for emergency treatment. Doctors later declared four of the injured suspects dead. The fifth person remains in critical condition and is receiving medical care.

Three Police Personnel Receive Treatment

Three Gurugram Police personnel were also injured after sustaining gunshot wounds during the encounter. They were shifted to hospital soon after the firing stopped, where doctors are monitoring their condition.

Police have not released the names of the injured officers. Senior officials said the department is ensuring that they receive all necessary medical support.

Forensic Teams Examine Encounter Site

After the encounter, senior police officers, including the DCP Crime and DCP East, visited the location. Teams from the Scene of Crime unit and the Forensic Science Laboratory also reached the area to inspect the site.

Forensic experts collected technical and physical evidence, while investigators examined the vehicle and other material recovered from the scene. Police said five foreign-made pistols were found during the operation.

Identities and Criminal Records Yet to Be Released

Police said the five suspects were believed to have links with the Deepak Nandal gang, whose alleged leader is reported to be based abroad. However, authorities said complete details regarding the identities of the deceased, the injured suspect and their criminal records will be shared after verification.

Further legal action is underway, and investigators are expected to examine whether the group was connected to other cases of extortion, threats or firing incidents in Gurugram and nearby areas.

Gurugram Police said it remains focused on public safety and will continue action against individuals involved in violent crime and intimidation.
