Floods – PM Modi Assures Full Central Support as Assam Battles Widespread Flood Crisis
Floods – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday reviewed the flood situation in Assam during a conversation with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and assured the state of complete assistance from the Central government for ongoing relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction efforts.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephonic discussion with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to assess the impact of the severe floods affecting several parts of the state. The Chief Minister later shared details of the conversation on X, stating that the Prime Minister sought updates on the current flood conditions, the extent of damage, the progress of rescue operations, and the challenges being faced by authorities on the ground.
Prime Minister Reviews Flood Response
During the conversation, Sarma informed the Prime Minister about the measures being taken by the Assam government to support people affected by the disaster. He said the administration is working to ensure that relief materials and essential assistance reach every family impacted by the floods. The state government has also been coordinating with multiple agencies to strengthen rescue and rehabilitation efforts.
Centre Promises Complete Assistance
According to the Chief Minister, Prime Minister Modi expressed concern over the loss of lives and the widespread destruction caused by the floods. He assured that the Central government considers the disaster a matter of high priority and will continue to extend every possible support for relief operations, rehabilitation of affected communities, and rebuilding damaged infrastructure.
Sarma stated that the Prime Minister reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to standing with the people of Assam during this difficult period and promised continued cooperation until normalcy is restored.

Following the discussion, Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked the Prime Minister on behalf of the people of Assam for his continued support. He said the assurance provided by the Prime Minister offers confidence to the state administration as it works to manage one of the most challenging flood situations in recent times.
The Chief Minister also acknowledged the Central government’s willingness to provide assistance whenever required and appreciated its prompt response during the ongoing emergency.
Over 11 Lakh People Affected
Assam has been facing repeated flooding due to continuous heavy rainfall within the state as well as in neighbouring regions. The overflowing rivers have inundated several districts, forcing thousands of residents to leave their homes and move to safer locations.
According to the State Disaster Management Authority, the floods have affected more than 11 lakh people across multiple districts. Rescue operations remain active in several areas where rising water levels continue to disrupt normal life.
Rescue and Relief Operations Continue
A large-scale response has been underway with the participation of district administrations, state agencies, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the Indian Army, and other emergency teams. These agencies are engaged in evacuating stranded residents, conducting rescue missions, and delivering relief materials to affected communities.
Meanwhile, the Assam government has been operating relief camps, supplying food and other essential items, and working to restore damaged public infrastructure. Officials are closely monitoring the flood situation while maintaining coordination with Central authorities to ensure timely assistance wherever required.
