Extortion – Gunfire Incident Near Pune Steel Warehouse Sparks Police Probe
Extortion – A suspected extortion attempt in Pune took a dramatic turn after two men riding a motorcycle allegedly fired multiple shots into the air near a steel warehouse in the city’s Mantarwadi area. Police believe the firing was intended to intimidate the businessman who had earlier reported receiving a ransom demand over the phone.

Extortion Complaint Filed Before Firing Incident
According to police officials, businessman Amol Rajendra Chamadai approached authorities on Tuesday evening after allegedly receiving a threatening phone call demanding money. The caller reportedly introduced himself as “Arju Bishnoi” and sought ransom from the businessman.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Gauhar Hasan said that the complaint was initially received at Wanwadi Police Station around 7 pm. The matter was subsequently transferred to Fursungi Police Station for further legal action and investigation.
Shots Fired Outside Steel Godown
Police said that while Chamadai was cooperating with investigators at the police station, two unidentified men arrived on a motorcycle near his business premises, H Vikas Pipes and Steel Pvt Ltd, located in Mantarwadi along the Pune-Saswad Road.
The suspects allegedly fired four rounds into the air before fleeing the area. Investigators suspect the act was carried out to create fear and pressure the businessman following the extortion demand made earlier in the day.
An FIR has been registered at Fursungi Police Station, and officers are examining all available evidence, including possible links between the threatening call and the firing incident.
Court Sends Murder Accused to Police Custody
In a separate case that has drawn significant attention in Pune district, a magistrate court on Tuesday remanded Siya Goyal and her associate Chetan Chaudhary to police custody until June 29. The two have been accused in connection with the death of Goyal’s fiancé, Ketan Agarwal.
The case was initially treated as an accidental fall from Lohagad Fort near Pune. However, investigators later concluded that the circumstances surrounding the incident warranted a murder investigation.
Investigation Points to Alleged Conspiracy
Police officials said Ketan Agarwal died after falling from the historic fort during a visit on June 18. As investigators reviewed the case, statements from relatives, friends, and other sources reportedly raised doubts about the accident theory.
Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill stated that technical evidence, witness accounts, and confidential inputs suggested that Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary had known each other for about a year and allegedly planned the crime together.
According to the police investigation, Agarwal was allegedly pushed from the fort, leading to his death. Authorities subsequently registered a murder case and arrested both suspects.
Family Seeks Justice
Police officials have claimed that both accused admitted their involvement during questioning, although the investigation remains ongoing. The defence, meanwhile, opposed the request for extended police custody during court proceedings.
Reacting to the developments, Ketan Agarwal’s father expressed grief over the loss of his 26-year-old son. He said that if the marriage proposal had been unacceptable, the engagement could have been called off peacefully rather than ending in tragedy.
Investigators continue to gather evidence in both cases as authorities work to establish the full sequence of events and identify all individuals involved.
