Eviction Notice – A fresh confrontation has emerged in Raipur after authorities served eviction notices to dozens of families living in Nakati village near the Mana area. The late-night action by officials has triggered protests among residents, who claim they have been living on the land for decades with valid documents and government-supported housing.
Late-Night Action Draws Strong Opposition
The situation escalated on Friday night when a joint team from the revenue department, accompanied by police personnel, reached Nakati village despite the Muharram public holiday. Officials began placing eviction notices on the walls of nearly 85 houses, leaving residents surprised by the timing and manner of the operation.
As news of the notices spread through the village, families gathered outside their homes and staged protests. Many questioned why the administration carried out the exercise late at night without prior public communication.
Land Earmarked for Proposed Residential Project
According to administrative sources, the land has been identified for the proposed development of a Vidhayak Colony intended for elected representatives. Officials maintain that the land belongs to the government and that the existing residential structures fall under unauthorized occupation.
Local reports indicate that the settlement has expanded gradually over several decades. The land was originally classified for village community use, commonly referred to as Nistari land, before permanent homes were constructed by local residents.
Residents Claim Long-Term Occupancy
Villagers strongly dispute the administration’s position, saying their families have lived in the area for many years and possess documents supporting their residence. They also point out that several houses were constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, raising questions about the future of beneficiaries who now face possible displacement.
Residents argue that the colony has become an established part of the village over time, with families building their lives there through successive generations.
Similar Eviction Attempt Faced Resistance Earlier
This is not the first time the settlement has come under the administration’s eviction drive. A similar operation was launched last year with the objective of clearing the same land.
At that time, widespread protests by villagers and intervention from local public representatives resulted in the administration suspending the exercise before any large-scale displacement could take place.
Uncertainty Continues for Affected Families
The latest notices have once again created uncertainty among the affected households. Many families say they are worried about losing their homes without a clear rehabilitation plan or alternative arrangements.
Residents are expected to hold discussions in the coming days to decide their collective response. Meanwhile, the administration continues to maintain that the land is government property and that further action will proceed according to legal provisions.
