Owaisi Calls for Active Participation in Verification Process

Addressing party office-bearers during an Eid Milap gathering on Friday, AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi appealed to citizens to cooperate fully with election officials during the revision exercise. He informed attendees that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) would visit households and either deliver or leave enumerator forms for voters as part of the verification process.

According to Owaisi, every voter should carefully review the information provided in these forms and ensure that their electoral details are correctly recorded. He stressed that accurate verification would help avoid discrepancies when the draft electoral rolls are published.

Assistance Available for Voters

The Hyderabad MP encouraged individuals who may face difficulties reading or understanding the forms to seek assistance from trusted persons or trained Booth Level Agents (BLAs). He noted that AIMIM has appointed party workers as BLAs and has provided them with the necessary training to guide voters throughout the process.

Owaisi stated that voters should pay close attention to the mapping of their records, explaining that proper mapping is essential for ensuring that names appear correctly in future electoral lists. He described the revision exercise as an issue requiring serious attention from all eligible voters.

Party Preparations Ahead of Revision Exercise

Highlighting the party’s preparations, Owaisi said AIMIM has been working on voter-related awareness efforts for more than a month. He added that the organization has also developed a dedicated application to support activities connected to the revision process.

The AIMIM leader maintained that voter verification is a shared responsibility and urged party workers and citizens alike to remain engaged throughout the exercise.

Congress Raises Concerns Over Vulnerable Groups

Meanwhile, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy discussed the issue during a meeting of the Congress Party’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC). He outlined measures aimed at protecting vulnerable communities, including Dalits, minorities, Adivasis, tribal groups, and migrant workers, during the voter verification process.

The Chief Minister expressed concern that certain sections of society could face challenges during the revision exercise and called for special attention to ensure that eligible voters are not excluded from the electoral rolls.

Demand for Transparency in SIR Exercise

The Telangana Congress has also emphasized the need for transparency throughout the Special Intensive Revision process. Party leaders recently met the State Chief Electoral Officer and requested that the exercise be conducted in an open and accountable manner.

Congress representatives additionally suggested extending the verification timeline, arguing that no major elections are immediately scheduled in the state and that additional time could help ensure broader participation.

Election Commission’s Nationwide Revision Plan

The Election Commission of India announced on May 14 the launch of Phase III of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls across 16 states and three Union Territories. The exercise is expected to cover more than 36 crore electors in a phased manner, including voters in Telangana.

According to the Commission, the revision programme has been coordinated with the ongoing house-listing activities associated with the Census to make efficient use of field resources and personnel.

Key Dates for Telangana

For Telangana and Punjab, October 1, 2026, has been fixed as the qualifying date for the revision process. Preparatory activities are scheduled from June 15 to June 24, 2026. House visits by Booth Level Officers will take place between June 25 and July 24, while the rationalisation stage is also expected to conclude by July 24.

Election authorities have indicated that the exercise is intended to improve the accuracy of electoral rolls and ensure that eligible citizens remain properly registered ahead of future elections.
