Elections – DMK Signals Confidence With Welfare and Development Push Ahead
Elections – Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Member of Parliament Kanimozhi on Sunday expressed strong optimism about her party’s prospects in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, stating that the government’s welfare-driven approach and development agenda would resonate with voters across the state.

Welfare Promises Take Center Stage
Speaking at a public gathering, Kanimozhi outlined a series of commitments aimed at improving livelihoods and expanding social support. Among the key promises were the distribution of laptops to millions of young people and the construction of a significant number of houses to address housing needs. She also highlighted plans to increase financial assistance for senior citizens and persons with disabilities, along with better procurement rates for agricultural produce such as paddy and milk.
These measures, she said, are part of a broader effort to ensure inclusive growth and strengthen economic stability for vulnerable sections of society.
Infrastructure Projects for Sulur Region
Focusing on regional development, Kanimozhi announced several projects for the Sulur constituency. These include the establishment of a textile park, dedicated accommodation facilities for workers, and a new government hospital in Sencherimalai. Plans also feature cold storage infrastructure, an indoor stadium built to international standards, and the development of a new ring road to ease transportation challenges.
According to her, these initiatives are designed to boost local industry, create employment opportunities, and improve public services.
Women’s Support Seen as Key Factor
Kanimozhi pointed to strong support from women voters, particularly in Coimbatore, noting that large public turnouts reflected growing trust in the party’s leadership. She credited the government’s focus on women-centric schemes over the past five years as a major reason behind this support.
Among the initiatives highlighted were monthly financial assistance programs that have contributed to enhancing women’s financial independence. She also referred to education-related schemes that have positively impacted both women and children.
Expansion of Existing Schemes
Looking ahead, Kanimozhi said that if re-elected, the government would expand key programs. This includes extending the school breakfast initiative to cover students up to Class 8 and increasing the financial support provided to women beneficiaries.
She emphasized that these steps would further strengthen social welfare systems and ensure that benefits reach a larger section of the population.
Youth Development and Education Focus
Highlighting progress in youth empowerment, Kanimozhi spoke about initiatives designed to prepare students for competitive examinations. She noted that several candidates from the region had recently succeeded in national-level exams, attributing this to targeted training and support programs.
Such efforts, she said, demonstrate the government’s commitment to equipping young people with skills and opportunities for career advancement.
Criticism of Opposition Parties
Kanimozhi also criticized opposition groups, accusing them of forming alliances that she claimed do not align with the interests of Tamil Nadu. She alleged that certain policies and decisions at the national level had adversely affected the state, including issues related to funding and language policies.
She further stated that opposition leaders had not fulfilled their earlier promises, contrasting this with what she described as the DMK government’s record of delivering on commitments.
Call for Continued Mandate
Appealing to voters, Kanimozhi urged them to support the DMK once again, asserting that the party remains dedicated to safeguarding the state’s development and identity. She framed the upcoming election as an opportunity to continue ongoing welfare and infrastructure initiatives.
Tamil Nadu is scheduled to vote in a single phase on April 23, with the counting of votes set for May
