The list, handed over to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, features a mix of senior national figures and key regional leaders who will spearhead the party’s outreach across the state during the crucial pre-election period.

Top Leaders to Lead Campaign Efforts

The party’s lineup includes several of its most influential figures. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to play a central role in the campaign, alongside Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Other notable names on the list include Nitin Gadkari, J.P. Nadda, Dharmendra Pradhan, Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

These leaders are likely to address rallies, participate in roadshows, and engage with voters in multiple districts, reflecting the importance the party places on the state election.

Polling Schedule and Key Dates

The Election Commission has announced that voting in West Bengal will take place in two phases, scheduled for April 23 and April 29. The counting of votes is set for May 4, when the outcome of this closely watched contest will be determined.

The phased polling is intended to ensure smooth conduct of elections across the state, which has historically witnessed intense political competition.

Prime Minister’s Remarks at Cooch Behar Rally

During a recent public meeting in Cooch Behar, Prime Minister Modi sharply criticised the ruling Trinamool Congress government. Addressing a large gathering, he suggested that the current administration would be held accountable after the election results are declared.

He urged voters not to be intimidated and to participate in the democratic process with confidence. According to him, the election represents an opportunity to bring change and restore public trust in governance.

The Prime Minister also indicated that law enforcement would act firmly against wrongdoing after the elections, regardless of the individuals involved.

Focus on Women’s Representation

In his address, Modi also highlighted the government’s efforts toward increasing women’s participation in politics. He referred to the recently passed legislation that aims to reserve 33 percent of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

He stated that the government is working to ensure that this provision is implemented starting with the 2029 general elections. The move, he said, is intended to strengthen the role of women in decision-making at both national and state levels.

Special Parliament Session Announcement

The Prime Minister announced that a special session of Parliament has been scheduled for April 16, 17, and 18 to advance the implementation of the women’s reservation framework. He described the initiative as a long-pending reform that should not face further delays.

He also addressed concerns related to seat distribution, assuring that states that have effectively managed population growth would not be disadvantaged. According to him, the proposed changes aim to balance representation while safeguarding the interests of all states.

Election Seen as High-Stakes Contest

The upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections are widely viewed as a significant political test for all major parties. With extensive campaigning planned and key leaders actively involved, the contest is expected to draw national attention.

As the election dates approach, both the ruling party and the opposition are intensifying their efforts to connect with voters and present their respective visions for the state’s future.
