BJP Leadership Begins Government Formation Process

Speaking to journalists in Guwahati on Tuesday, Sarma confirmed that the BJP’s national leadership has appointed senior party figures to supervise the selection of the new legislative party leader. According to the Chief Minister, former BJP national president J.P. Nadda and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini have been assigned as observers for the crucial meeting of newly elected legislators.

Sarma explained that discussions regarding the schedule for the BJP Legislature Party meeting would take place soon. He noted that the swearing-in ceremony for the new administration would only be finalised after the elected MLAs formally choose their leader. The process is expected to conclude shortly after the Election Commission issues the official notification of the final results.

NDA Registers Strong Victory in Assam

The election outcome delivered a major boost to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance in Assam. The alliance comfortably crossed the majority mark, allowing the party to prepare for another term in power under Sarma’s leadership. The BJP alone secured 82 seats in the Assembly, reinforcing its political strength in the northeastern state.

The Congress finished a distant second with 19 seats. Regional political parties also managed notable performances, with both the Bodoland People’s Front and the Asom Gana Parishad winning 10 seats each. Meanwhile, the All India United Democratic Front and Raijor Dal secured two seats apiece. The All India Trinamool Congress managed to enter the Assembly with one seat.

Third Consecutive Term for BJP in Sight

With the latest victory, the BJP is now preparing to lead the Assam government for a third straight term. Political observers view the results as another indication of the party’s growing influence in the Northeast region. The scale of the victory has also dealt a setback to opposition parties attempting to regain ground in the state.

Celebrations were reported from several parts of Assam after the results were announced. BJP workers and supporters gathered at party offices and public spaces, praising the outcome as an endorsement of the government’s development policies and administrative performance during the previous term.

Swearing-In Ceremony Expected Soon

Officials within the party indicated that the date for the swearing-in ceremony would be announced once the legislative party leader is formally elected. Preparations for the transition process are already underway, with party leaders coordinating with state authorities to complete the constitutional procedures required for the formation of the next government.

The BJP leadership is expected to focus on continuity in governance and implementation of ongoing development projects as the new administration prepares to assume office in Assam once again.
