Diplomacy – Modi Welcomes US-Iran Understanding to Ease West Asia Tensions
Diplomacy – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed support for the recent understanding reached between the United States and Iran, describing it as an important step toward reducing tensions in West Asia. The development comes after officials from both countries confirmed progress toward ending hostilities and restoring normal movement through the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz.

India Backs Efforts to Restore Stability
During his visit to Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, as part of his ongoing European tour, Prime Minister Modi shared his views on the agreement through a post on social media platform X. He noted that the prolonged conflict in the region had created major economic challenges worldwide and contributed to the loss of lives across several countries.
According to Modi, the latest understanding between Washington and Tehran offers hope for greater peace and stability in a region that plays a crucial role in international trade and energy supplies. He also emphasized the importance of ensuring uninterrupted maritime navigation and commercial activity.
Call for Long-Term Resolution
The Prime Minister stated that India expects the implementation of the agreement to help improve regional conditions and strengthen confidence among nations dependent on the Gulf’s trade routes. He further expressed hope that discussions on unresolved matters would continue constructively and eventually lead to a durable and comprehensive settlement.
India has consistently advocated dialogue and diplomatic engagement in international disputes, particularly in regions that have a direct impact on global energy markets and economic growth.
Trump Announces Completion of Agreement
Earlier in the day, US President Donald Trump announced that negotiations with Iran had reached a successful conclusion. In a message posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said the agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran had been finalized.
The US President also indicated that the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important shipping corridors for oil and natural gas exports, would resume normal operations later this week. The route had experienced significant disruption in recent months, affecting energy markets and international shipping.
Shipping and Energy Trade Expected to Resume
Trump additionally stated that he had directed the removal of restrictions affecting Iranian ports, a move expected to support the restoration of regional trade activity. The announcement was viewed as a potentially significant development for global energy supplies, given the strategic importance of maritime traffic passing through the Gulf region.
In a brief message, Trump signaled optimism about the reopening of commercial shipping channels and the return of oil exports through established international routes.
Pakistan Confirms Progress on Understanding
Shortly before Trump’s announcement, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also confirmed that an agreement had been reached. He described the arrangement as an important breakthrough aimed at ending military confrontations and reducing tensions across multiple areas affected by the conflict.
Sharif stated that the memorandum of understanding includes provisions for the immediate and permanent cessation of military operations. The framework reportedly extends to several fronts, including Lebanon, reflecting broader efforts to achieve regional de-escalation.
Formal Signing Scheduled in Switzerland
Officials have indicated that the memorandum of understanding is expected to be formally signed in Switzerland on Friday. The signing is anticipated to mark a major diplomatic milestone and could pave the way for further negotiations on outstanding issues between the parties involved.
Observers across the international community will be closely monitoring the implementation of the agreement, particularly its impact on regional security, energy markets, and global trade flows in the coming weeks.
