Delhi Flooding – A search operation is continuing after a man was reportedly swept into an open drain during heavy waterlogging in southwest Delhi. The incident occurred on Thursday and has once again drawn attention to the dangers posed by uncovered drains during the monsoon season.

Authorities are continuing efforts to locate a man who is feared to have died after reportedly falling into an open drain along a flooded road in Bijwasan, located in southwest Delhi. Rescue teams searched the area for several hours on Thursday but were unable to find him before the operation was halted for the day. Officials said the search will resume on Friday.

Search Operation Faces Major Challenges

According to officials, the Delhi Fire Services received an emergency call at around 12.20 pm informing them that a person had fallen into a drain near Bijwasan. A fire tender was immediately sent to the location, while a team from the National Disaster Response Force later joined the rescue mission to strengthen the search efforts.

Rescue personnel encountered significant difficulties because the drain where the man reportedly fell connects to a much larger drainage channel before eventually flowing into a canal. The strong current and extensive drainage network made it challenging for teams to trace his location despite prolonged efforts.

Rescue Mission to Resume

Officials confirmed that the search did not produce any results by evening, forcing authorities to suspend the operation due to fading daylight and difficult conditions. The rescue mission is scheduled to continue on Friday with teams expected to revisit the affected stretch and nearby connected waterways.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the man’s identity, and officials said further updates will depend on the outcome of the resumed search operation.

Three Schoolchildren Safely Rescued in Separate Incident

In another incident reported the same day, three schoolchildren narrowly escaped serious harm after falling into an open drain concealed beneath floodwater in Jagatpur village in north Delhi.

According to fire department officials, the children were returning home from school and walking through a waterlogged street when they unknowingly stepped into the overflowing drain. Because the drain was hidden beneath accumulated rainwater, they were unable to recognize the danger in time.

Quick Action by Residents Prevents Tragedy

People living nearby immediately responded after noticing the children in distress. Local residents rushed to the spot and managed to pull all three children out of the drain safely before emergency teams arrived.

Officials said the children escaped without any reported loss of life, highlighting how timely intervention by residents prevented what could have become a far more serious incident.
