Delhi : Sets Three-Year Timeline to Transform Entire Public Bus Fleet Electric
Delhi : government has announced a major step toward sustainable urban mobility, revealing a comprehensive plan to convert the entire public transport bus network into an emission-free electric system within the next three years. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, highlighting the administration’s long-term vision to reduce pollution, modernize transport infrastructure, and improve the overall quality of life in the national capital.
Major Push Toward Emission-Free Public Transport
Speaking at a public gathering, the Chief Minister confirmed that the government has significantly increased its capital expenditure to accelerate infrastructure-led development. According to her statement, Delhi’s capital expenditure has been doubled, with nearly Rs 30,000 crore now allocated for development projects. A substantial portion of this funding is being directed toward the transition of public transport buses to electric alternatives, ensuring cleaner air and a quieter urban environment.
She stated that all operational arrangements have been finalized to induct around 11,000 electric buses into the city’s transport system. Alongside the buses, the government is rapidly developing supporting infrastructure, including modern charging stations and newly upgraded bus depots, to ensure seamless operation and maintenance.
Infrastructure Development and Urban Readiness
The Delhi administration has emphasized that infrastructure development is progressing at a fast pace to match the scale of the electric bus rollout. Charging hubs are being strategically planned across the city to minimize downtime and improve route efficiency. New depots are also being designed to accommodate electric vehicles, ensuring safety standards, technical reliability, and operational sustainability.
Officials believe that this integrated approach will not only strengthen public transport but also encourage more residents to shift away from private vehicles, helping ease traffic congestion and lower pollution levels across the capital.
Health Coverage Expanded Through Ayushman Bharat
Apart from transport reforms, the Chief Minister highlighted the swift implementation of Ayushman Bharat in Delhi. She noted that the scheme was launched on the very first day of the current government’s formation, signaling a strong focus on healthcare accessibility. Since its rollout, nearly 6.5 lakh residents have registered under the program.
The scheme offers health insurance coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh, providing financial security to beneficiaries during serious medical emergencies. The government considers this initiative a critical pillar of its social welfare agenda, aimed at reducing healthcare-related financial stress for families.
Governance Milestones in Eleven Months
Reflecting on the past eleven months of governance, the Chief Minister said that the administration inherited multiple systemic challenges. She described these challenges as long-standing inefficiencies that had accumulated over the years. According to her, the government has taken several decisive and people-centric measures to address these issues and set Delhi on a new developmental path.

During the Republic Day celebrations at Chhatrasal Stadium, the Chief Minister unfurled the national flag and reviewed the ceremonial parade. In her address, she paid tribute to freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the nation and upheld the honor of the tricolour.
She described the Constitution as the soul of India, noting that for the past 77 years it has guided the country toward justice, equality, and dignity. She acknowledged the collective efforts involved in framing the Constitution and building the nation, stating that these ideals continue to inspire governance and public service today.
