Kolkata arrest delhi newlywed murder case

A 38-year-old man has been taken into custody for allegedly murdering his wife less than two weeks after their marriage. According to Delhi Police, the accused was arrested from Kolkata after reportedly escaping the national capital following the crime. Authorities said the case is linked to ongoing disputes over dowry demands and financial disagreements within the family.

Body Found Inside Locked Rented Room

The matter surfaced on May 8 when police received a PCR call from a landlord in Delhi’s Laxmanpuri area of Nabi Karim. The landlord informed officials about a strong foul smell coming from one of the rented rooms in the building. He also told police that the tenant staying there had not been seen for several days.

When officers reached the location, they discovered the room locked from outside. After entering, they found the decomposed body of a woman lying on a bed. Police later identified the deceased as a 28-year-old woman from Haldwani in Uttarakhand.

Investigators said the woman had recently married the accused, Mohammad Ejaz, who belongs to Bihar’s Vaishali district. The couple had started living together in the rented accommodation shortly after their wedding on April 26.

Dowry allegations emerged during the investigation.

Police registered a case at Nabi Karim police station and began questioning family members and people connected to the couple. During the investigation, the woman’s father accused Ejaz and his brother, Sarfaraz, of repeatedly harassing his daughter for dowry and money.

Officials stated that the allegations became an important part of the inquiry as investigators attempted to understand the events leading up to the woman’s death. Police teams also gathered technical evidence and examined the movements of the accused after the incident.

Accused Tracked to Kolkata

According to police, Ejaz allegedly fled Delhi soon after the crime and travelled to Kolkata in an attempt to avoid arrest. Using technical surveillance and location tracking, investigators traced him to the Karaya area of Kolkata, where he was arrested on May 13.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Rohit Rajbir Singh said sustained efforts by the investigation team helped locate the suspect. Police officials coordinated with local authorities in Kolkata before carrying out the arrest operation.

Police Claim Accused Confessed During Questioning

During interrogation, the accused allegedly admitted that an argument had taken place between him and his wife during the night of May 6 and May 7. Police said the dispute was connected to dowry issues and financial matters.

Investigators claimed that the quarrel later turned violent, and Ejaz allegedly strangled his wife during the confrontation. After the incident, he reportedly locked the room and fled from Delhi.

The body remained inside the rented room until the landlord noticed the foul smell and informed the police. Authorities said further legal proceedings are underway, and the investigation into the case continues.
