Crime – Undertrial in Ayodhya Blast Case Killed Inside Neemla Jail
Crime – An undertrial prisoner facing charges in a suspected Ayodhya blast conspiracy was killed inside Neemla Jail in Faridabad on Sunday after being attacked by another inmate, officials confirmed.

Altercation Turns Fatal Inside Jail Barracks
The deceased has been identified as Abdul Rehman, a resident of Milkipur in Uttar Pradesh’s Faizabad district. Authorities said Rehman was allegedly assaulted by fellow prisoner Arun Chaudhary during a confrontation within the prison premises. Chaudhary had recently been shifted to Neemla Jail from a facility in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to preliminary findings shared by the police, the two inmates were involved in a dispute that escalated suddenly. During the altercation, Chaudhary reportedly used a sharp-edged object to attack Rehman. Jail staff intervened after the incident came to light, but Rehman succumbed to his injuries.
Officials have not yet disclosed how the weapon was obtained inside the high-security facility.
Police Launch Detailed Investigation
Senior police officers stated that a comprehensive inquiry has been initiated to establish the exact chain of events leading to the fatal attack. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage, questioning prison personnel, and recording statements from other inmates who may have witnessed the clash.
Authorities are also examining whether there were prior tensions between the two prisoners and assessing potential lapses in security protocols. The incident has raised concerns about inmate safety and monitoring mechanisms within correctional facilities.
Further legal action is expected against the accused inmate following the completion of initial procedures, police said.
Background of the Deceased Prisoner
Abdul Rehman had been arrested last year in connection with an alleged conspiracy to carry out an explosion in Ayodhya. He was apprehended in March by a joint operation conducted by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad and the Special Task Force of Haryana Police from Faridabad.
Following his arrest, Rehman was remanded to judicial custody and had been lodged in Neemla Jail since June 2025. The case against him pertains to accusations of plotting activities linked to a potential blast in the temple town.
Law enforcement agencies had earlier alleged that Rehman maintained links with Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI. However, the matter remains under judicial consideration, and the charges are yet to be proven in court.
Security and Administrative Review Expected
The fatal stabbing has prompted internal reviews within the prison administration. Senior officials are expected to evaluate security arrangements, inmate segregation policies, and monitoring systems to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Prison authorities have yet to issue a detailed public statement on the circumstances surrounding the availability of a sharp weapon inside the facility. Additional security checks and inspections are likely to follow as part of the ongoing review.
The incident underscores the challenges faced by correctional institutions in managing high-risk inmates and maintaining order within confined environments. As investigations proceed, officials have assured that accountability will be fixed based on the findings.
Further updates are awaited as police continue to gather evidence and complete procedural formalities in the case.
