Crime – Knife Attack on Army Personnel Leads to Arrest in Delhi Bus Incident

Crime – A 24-year-old man has been taken into custody for allegedly assaulting an Army personnel with a knife aboard a public bus near Old Delhi Railway Station. The incident occurred in the Lahori Gate area of central Delhi and has raised concerns about passenger safety on public transport.

Incident Occurred During Journey to Duty

Police officials stated that the injured Army personnel was traveling to Rajasthan to resume his official duties when the altercation took place. According to initial findings, a dispute broke out between the soldier and the accused, identified as Ganesh, who had boarded the same bus. The situation escalated quickly, resulting in the accused attacking the soldier with a knife.

The victim sustained serious injuries, particularly to his face, and was provided medical attention shortly after the incident. Authorities have not disclosed further details about his current condition but confirmed that the injuries were severe.

Suspect Apprehended During Routine Patrol

The arrest was made on April 25 during a routine patrol in the Chandni Chowk area. Head Constable Dharmender and Constable Sunil noticed a man behaving suspiciously around 7 pm. When the individual attempted to flee upon spotting the officers, they pursued and detained him.

Upon searching the suspect, police recovered a knife believed to have been used in the attack. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia confirmed that the man was taken into custody immediately and later identified as the same individual involved in the bus incident.

Background of the Accused

Investigations revealed that the accused is a resident of Prahladpur in Delhi but had been living as a vagabond in the Chandni Chowk area. Police described him as an illiterate individual struggling with drug addiction. During questioning, he reportedly confessed to his involvement in the attack on the Army personnel.

Officials further stated that the accused has a history of criminal activities and is considered a habitual offender. According to police sources, his involvement in such acts is often linked to his dependency on drugs, which he allegedly finances through unlawful means.

Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation

Following the arrest, a case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Arms Act at the Lahori Gate police station. Authorities have also linked him to the earlier assault case involving the Army personnel, which had been reported at the same station.

Police have initiated a detailed investigation to understand the full sequence of events and determine whether the accused had any prior connection with the victim. They are also examining whether additional charges may be filed based on further evidence.

The incident has once again highlighted the importance of vigilance and safety in public transportation systems, especially in crowded areas like central Delhi. Law enforcement agencies have reiterated their commitment to maintaining public order and ensuring swift action against individuals involved in violent crimes.

Passengers are advised to remain cautious and report any suspicious behavior to authorities immediately. Increased patrolling in sensitive areas has also been emphasized to prevent similar incidents in the future.
