Crime- A man was gunned down in a busy area of Dehradun on Friday morning, triggering heightened security and a citywide manhunt for the attackers.
Broad Daylight Shooting on Rajpur Road
Panic gripped Rajpur Road near the Silver City Mall area in Dehradun after unidentified assailants opened fire at a local resident around 10:15 am. The victim, identified as Vikram Sharma, was reportedly returning home from a gym session when he was attacked.
Eyewitnesses said two individuals arrived on a motorcycle and fired multiple rounds before fleeing the scene. The sudden gunfire in one of the city’s busiest commercial stretches caused alarm among commuters and shopkeepers. Sharma succumbed to his injuries at the spot, according to police officials.
Senior Officers Rush to the Scene
Top police officials reached the area shortly after the incident. Rajiv Swaroop, Inspector General of Police for the Garhwal Range, confirmed that multiple teams had been deployed to track down the suspects.
He stated that the victim had stepped out for his routine workout and was targeted while returning. Police have launched a comprehensive investigation and are examining CCTV footage from nearby establishments. Authorities have assured that those responsible will be identified and brought to justice.
Citywide Alert and Search Operation
Superintendent of Police Pramod Kumar said security has been tightened across key entry and exit points in Dehradun. Checkpoints have been established at strategic locations, and vehicles are being inspected as part of the search operation.

Arrests in Separate Murder Case
In a related development, Dehradun Police recently apprehended two accused linked to the murder of 42-year-old businessman Arjun Sharma. The killing took place earlier this week and was carried out in broad daylight by assailants riding a scooter.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh, the suspects had been planning the attack for nearly two to three weeks. Acting on intelligence inputs, police tracked suspicious vehicles entering the district from outside areas.
Encounter Operations in Doiwala
Based on specific information that one of the accused would visit a relative in the Doiwala area, police teams laid a trap. During the operation, an exchange of fire took place. One suspect sustained a bullet injury to his leg and was later shifted to the District Hospital for treatment.
Officials said that when officers attempted to detain another accused, he allegedly opened fire at the police team. In retaliatory action, he too was injured and taken into custody. Both individuals are currently undergoing medical treatment under police supervision.
