Crime – A 32-year-old woman lost her life following an alleged assault by her husband in southeast Delhi’s Pul Prahladpur locality, police officials confirmed. The incident, which reportedly stemmed from a domestic disagreement, has resulted in the arrest of the accused and sparked concern over rising cases of household violence.

The victim, identified as Poonam, was allegedly attacked by her husband, Suresh Kumar, during an argument at their residence in DDA Janta Flats. According to preliminary findings, the altercation was linked to financial issues involving support for the husband’s brother. What began as a verbal disagreement quickly escalated into a violent confrontation.
Police stated that during the dispute, the accused reportedly used a small LPG cylinder to strike his wife multiple times. The severity of the attack resulted in Poonam’s death at the scene before any medical help could be provided.
Recent Relocation and Family Background
Investigators revealed that the couple had moved to Delhi from Churu district in Rajasthan nearly a month ago. They were married in 2020 and had been trying to settle into their new environment in the capital.
The couple has two daughters. Their elder child, aged four, currently resides with her grandparents in Rajasthan, while their younger daughter, who is about one-and-a-half years old, was living with the parents at the time of the incident. Authorities are also considering the welfare of the children as part of the ongoing case developments.

Residents in the neighborhood reported hearing loud screams from the couple’s home during the altercation. Alarmed by the noise, they quickly informed local police. Officers arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the call and found the woman unresponsive.
Suresh Kumar was apprehended at the location and later taken into custody for questioning. Law enforcement officials have confirmed that he has been formally arrested in connection with the case.
