Census – Delhi Begins Voluntary Self-Enumeration Drive for 2027 Count

Census – The national capital has launched the next phase of preparations for Census 2027, inviting residents to submit their household information through a voluntary self-enumeration process starting Friday.

Census delhi self enumeration drive 2027

The initiative will cover all areas governed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, while regions under the New Delhi Municipal Council and Delhi Cantonment have already completed this stage and are currently undergoing physical surveys. Authorities expect residents to take part over the next 15 days by entering their details online.

How the self-enumeration process will work

Residents are required to access the official census portal and provide details about their households. Only one account per household is necessary, and any family member can complete the process using a registered mobile number. The system is designed to be user-friendly, allowing participants to select their preferred language during the first login, although this choice cannot be modified later.

In addition to personal and household details, users will need to mark the exact location of their residence. This can be done by selecting a point on a digital map, searching for the address within the portal, or manually entering geographic coordinates such as latitude and longitude. Officials say this step is crucial for improving the accuracy of data collection.

Coverage across Delhi and timeline

The self-enumeration exercise is being conducted across all 250 wards under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. It will run from May 1 to May 15. After this phase, census officials will begin door-to-door visits as part of the Houselisting and Housing operations, scheduled from May 16 to June 14.

During these visits, residents will be asked to provide the unique identification number generated during the online submission. This 11-digit self-enumeration ID will help officials verify and record the information efficiently.

Special arrangements for public officials

Government sources indicated that dedicated teams may visit the residences and offices of senior functionaries, including the lieutenant governor and chief minister, to assist them with the online process. This step is aimed at ensuring that even high-ranking officials complete their participation smoothly within the stipulated timeframe.

Authorities have emphasized that the process is open to all residents living within the municipal limits, regardless of their domicile status. This means both permanent residents and those temporarily residing in the city are eligible to take part in the exercise.

Voluntary participation and support services

Officials have clarified that self-enumeration is not mandatory but encouraged as a responsible civic activity. By participating early, residents can reduce the time required during physical verification visits and contribute to a more streamlined census process.

To assist citizens, the government has set up a toll-free helpline. People facing difficulties while filling out the online form or seeking clarification about the process can call 1855 for guidance. Authorities hope that this support system will improve participation rates and address concerns promptly.

Importance of accurate data collection

The Census is a critical exercise that helps shape public policy, infrastructure planning, and allocation of resources. Officials believe that incorporating digital tools such as self-enumeration will improve both efficiency and accuracy, while also giving residents greater control over how their data is recorded.

With the process now underway, authorities are urging citizens to complete their submissions within the given window to ensure a smooth transition to the next phase of enumeration.
