BuildingSafety – Delhi Intensifies Action Against Illegal Structures Across City

BuildingSafety – Delhi authorities continued their campaign against unauthorized buildings and violations of construction regulations on Sunday, carrying out fresh enforcement measures in several parts of South Delhi.

The latest operation focused on the Sainik Farm and Khanpur localities, where government agencies inspected properties suspected of breaching approved construction standards. During the drive, officials demolished one structure in Sainik Farm and sealed ten other properties found to be in violation of applicable rules.

Enforcement Campaign Expands Across Delhi

Officials stated that the action is part of a broader citywide initiative aimed at curbing illegal construction activities and ensuring adherence to building safety requirements. The administration has been conducting regular inspections to identify structures that may pose risks due to non-compliance with established regulations.

According to government figures, enforcement measures taken since June 1 have resulted in the demolition of 95 properties and the sealing of 124 others across Delhi. Authorities have also issued notices to numerous sites where construction activities were underway without proper approvals.

Notices Issued to Multiple Construction Sites

The administration reported that show-cause notices have been served to 84 under-construction properties during the ongoing campaign. Following the issuance of notices, 41 properties were subsequently sealed for failing to address the identified violations.

In addition, demolition orders have been approved for another 33 properties, indicating that further action is expected in the coming days as authorities continue their inspections.

Revenue Department Conducts District-Wide Inspections

As part of Sunday’s operations, teams from the Revenue Department visited and reviewed construction sites across several districts of the national capital. The inspections covered 16 locations in North Delhi, four sites in the New Delhi district, and ten locations in the South West district.

Officials also examined six sites in the South East district, fifteen in East Delhi, thirteen in North West Delhi, and five in the North East district. Additional inspections were carried out at nineteen locations in Central North district, eleven in Central district, and thirty-one sites in West district.

Government Emphasises Public Safety

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining construction discipline and protecting residents from potential safety hazards. She stated that unauthorized structures and violations that compromise public safety would not be permitted and that enforcement actions would continue without exception.

According to the administration, building regulations are designed not merely as procedural requirements but as safeguards intended to ensure structural stability and the well-being of citizens. Officials stressed that compliance with approved plans remains essential for sustainable urban development.

Strict Stand on Height and Construction Violations

The government also reaffirmed its position regarding violations of the prescribed ground-plus-five construction limit. Authorities made it clear that departures from the approved framework would not be accepted under any circumstances.

Officials warned that individuals, developers, or organizations found disregarding construction norms could face stringent legal consequences. The administration indicated that monitoring efforts would continue as part of its ongoing strategy to improve compliance and strengthen safety standards throughout the capital.
