Delhi budget women welfare 2026

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday indicated that the financial plan, scheduled to be presented in the Delhi Assembly on March 24, will carry several important announcements focused on women and young girls. She made these remarks while attending a programme celebrating women’s contributions at the Nirmal Chhaya Complex in the national capital.

Focus on Inclusive Development

Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister emphasised the vital role women play in shaping society and contributing to national progress. She noted that the government’s upcoming budget would reflect a broader vision of inclusive growth, with targeted policies designed to strengthen support systems for women across different sections of society.

According to her, the aim is not limited to introducing new schemes, but also ensuring that existing programmes deliver tangible results. She stressed that effective implementation remains a priority so that benefits reach those who need them the most.

Existing Schemes and Future Plans

Gupta referred to ongoing initiatives that are already part of the government’s efforts to uplift women and children. Among these are programmes like Lakhpati Bitiya, which focuses on financial empowerment, and the Pink Saheli smart cards that provide free bus travel for women, improving their mobility and access to opportunities.

She suggested that the upcoming budget will build on such initiatives, potentially expanding their scope or introducing new measures aimed at education, safety, and economic participation for women and girls.

Inspection of Welfare Facilities

During her visit to the Nirmal Chhaya Complex, the Chief Minister reviewed several facilities dedicated to the care and protection of women and children. She inspected the women’s care home, Balika Grih, and Bal Niketan, taking stock of the living conditions and services being provided.

Officials accompanying her briefed her on the facilities available, and she interacted with residents to understand their concerns. The visit, according to government sources, was aimed at assessing ground-level implementation of welfare measures and identifying areas for improvement.

Emphasis on Safety and Awareness

The Chief Minister also visited the Sankalp Hub, where initiatives under Mission Shakti were showcased. These programmes focus on women’s safety, awareness campaigns, and empowerment activities. Exhibits at the hub highlighted efforts to educate women about their rights and provide them with tools to enhance personal security.

Gupta acknowledged the importance of such platforms in creating awareness and fostering confidence among women, especially those from vulnerable backgrounds.

Encouraging Entrepreneurship Opportunities

Another key highlight of the visit was her interaction with self-help groups operating at the Mahila Haat. These groups are involved in producing and selling local goods, offering women an avenue for income generation.

The Chief Minister reviewed the products displayed and expressed support for expanding such initiatives. She said that the government is working towards creating more employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for women through group-based models, which can help build financial independence at the community level.

A Broader Policy Direction

Overall, the government’s approach, as outlined by Gupta, reflects a combination of welfare support and long-term empowerment strategies. By focusing on education, safety, mobility, and economic participation, the upcoming budget is expected to address multiple aspects of women’s development.

While specific details will be revealed when the budget is formally presented, the announcement signals a continued emphasis on policies aimed at strengthening the position of women and girls in Delhi.
