BJP- Responds Strongly After Sonia Gandhi Questions India’s Gaza Policy

BJP-  The political debate over India’s response to the Gaza conflict intensified on Saturday after the Bharatiya Janata Party strongly rejected Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s criticism of the Union government’s diplomatic approach.

Bjp responds sonia gandhi gaza policy

The BJP dismissed Sonia Gandhi’s remarks on India’s handling of the Gaza conflict, accusing her of presenting an inaccurate picture of the country’s foreign policy. The response came after Gandhi wrote an opinion article questioning what she described as the Centre’s silence over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. According to the ruling party, India has consistently communicated its position on the issue through diplomatic channels while continuing humanitarian assistance and supporting international efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire.

BJP Defends India’s Diplomatic Position

Responding to the article, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said the Congress was attempting to mislead the public about India’s international stance. He maintained that New Delhi has repeatedly expressed its views on the Israel-Palestine conflict and has backed United Nations initiatives seeking a ceasefire. He also highlighted India’s humanitarian assistance for civilians affected by the conflict.

Poonawalla argued that India’s foreign policy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has focused on maintaining balanced relations with countries holding differing geopolitical positions. According to him, this approach has enabled India to engage simultaneously with Israel and Palestine, as well as with nations on opposite sides of other international disputes.

Congress Raises Concerns Over Government’s Approach

In her article, Sonia Gandhi alleged that the Modi government had failed to respond adequately to the situation in Gaza. She argued that India’s current position has weakened its traditional relationships with Palestine, Iran, and several countries in the Middle East. Gandhi also claimed that India’s diplomatic influence in the region had declined, allowing Pakistan to project itself as a potential mediator.

She further stated that India’s historical commitment to supporting the Palestinian people should continue, adding that the country’s national interest also requires it to acknowledge growing international concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

BJP Highlights Modi’s Global Diplomacy

The BJP spokesperson defended the government’s diplomatic record by pointing to Prime Minister Modi’s international engagement with leaders across different regions. Poonawalla said the Prime Minister has successfully maintained communication with nations despite their competing political interests, describing the government’s approach as one of broad diplomatic engagement rather than traditional non-alignment.

He also referred to the international honours received by Modi from various countries, including several Muslim-majority nations. According to Poonawalla, these recognitions reflect India’s growing global partnerships and demonstrate the government’s ability to build strong international relationships.

Fresh Political Exchange Over Foreign Policy

The BJP also criticised the Congress over its past foreign policy decisions. Poonawalla alleged that previous Congress governments avoided strengthening ties with Israel due to political considerations. He further accused the opposition of selectively speaking on international issues while remaining silent on concerns involving Hindus in Bangladesh.

The exchange marks another sharp political disagreement between the BJP and Congress, with foreign policy emerging as a key area of debate. While the Congress has called for a stronger public response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the BJP maintains that India has followed a balanced and responsible diplomatic course by supporting humanitarian relief efforts and engaging with all relevant stakeholders.
