According to CBS Chicago, eight shooting incidents had been reported in the city by 8:22 a.m. Sunday. Three people had died and nine others were injured in those cases, with two of the wounded victims reported to be in critical condition.

Saturday Shooting Leaves Man Critically Injured

A separate shooting earlier Saturday also added to the weekend toll. A 35-year-old man was shot in the head during the early hours of the morning and remained in critical condition, according to reports.

Taken together, the incidents resulted in at least 10 people being injured during the period covered by the reports. Authorities had not announced any arrests in connection with the Chicago shootings at the time of reporting.

Chicago Continues to Face High Levels of Gun Violence

Available statistics highlight the scale of the city’s ongoing gun violence problem. In the 12 months ending April 7, Chicago recorded 1,878 victims of gun violence, according to the figures cited in the reports. Of those victims, 356 lost their lives.

The latest shootings come amid continued concern over violent crime in several US communities. While individual incidents vary in circumstances, gun-related violence remains a recurring public safety issue across the country.

Multiple Deaths Reported in North Carolina Shooting

A separate shooting at a rural residence in Caswell County, North Carolina, also resulted in multiple deaths earlier in the week.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation said deputies responded to a service call shortly before 8 a.m. local time on Wednesday. When officers reached the property, they found several people who had suffered gunshot wounds.

One injured person was taken to a hospital for treatment, while authorities confirmed that several others had died. A local report, citing Caswell County Sheriff Tony Durden, said three members of the same family were found dead, including the person suspected of carrying out the shooting. Another relative was taken to hospital.

The circumstances surrounding the North Carolina incident remained under investigation, with authorities working to establish what led to the shooting.

US Continues to Record Frequent Shooting Incidents

Gun violence has remained a serious issue in the United States for decades. Hundreds of mass shooting incidents are reported across the country each year, although the circumstances and number of victims differ from case to case.

Another shooting was reported earlier on August 2 in Portland, Oregon, where one person was killed and five others were wounded.

According to a statement from the local government, Portland police officers assigned to the North Precinct were sent to the 5800 block of Northeast Alberta Street at about 3:33 a.m. after receiving a report of gunfire. Officers responded to the scene and began investigating the incident.

Authorities in the different cases continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the shootings. Details about possible suspects, motives and further developments were not immediately available in the reports cited above.
