Final Tribute at Native Village
Military officials conducted a solemn tribute ceremony to honour Havildar Mohd Iqbal’s service to the country. The atmosphere remained respectful as soldiers stood in remembrance of their fallen colleague. Residents from nearby areas joined relatives at the family home to offer condolences and bid farewell. In another event held earlier this month, the Assam Rifles organised a wreath-laying ceremony at the Radhanagar Battalion in Tripura to commemorate Rifleman (GD) Govind Singh of 28 Assam Rifles. The programme marked the anniversary of his sacrifice on July 10, 1996, recognising his courage and devotion to duty during an anti-militancy operation in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to official accounts, security forces had launched a search mission after receiving intelligence about the presence of militants in the Mandrala area. As the team advanced toward the suspected location, it came under heavy gunfire. During the encounter, Rifleman Govind Singh displayed exceptional bravery while engaging the militants. He sustained serious injuries during the operation and later succumbed to them.
Ceremony Reflects Lasting Legacy
Senior officers, including the Commandant, Second-in-Command, Adjutant, and Subedar Major, laid wreaths during the commemorative event in the presence of battalion personnel. A two-minute silence was observed to honour the memory of the fallen soldier and acknowledge his contribution to the nation.
