AmarnathYatra – Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to lead a crucial review meeting in New Delhi on Friday to assess preparations for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, one of India’s most significant annual religious pilgrimages. The discussion will focus on ensuring a safe and well-organized journey for thousands of devotees expected to visit the revered cave shrine in Jammu and Kashmir later this year.
Senior Officials to Assess Readiness
The high-level meeting will bring together key figures from the country’s security and administrative establishment. Those expected to participate include National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief of the Army Staff Upendra Dwivedi, and Central Reserve Police Force Director General GP Singh. Several senior representatives from security agencies and government departments are also scheduled to attend.
The review session, expected to begin around 11 a.m., will examine the current state of preparations and identify any additional measures needed before the pilgrimage begins.
Focus on Security and Coordination
Authorities are expected to discuss deployment plans for security personnel across the pilgrimage route. Special attention will be given to coordination among the Central Armed Police Forces, local police units, intelligence agencies, and civil administration to maintain smooth operations throughout the event.
Officials are also likely to evaluate surveillance systems, communication networks, and emergency response arrangements. Given the geographical and security sensitivities of the region, comprehensive planning remains a key priority for all agencies involved.
Pilgrimage Scheduled for 57 Days
The Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra is scheduled to commence on July 3 and conclude on August 28, spanning a total of 57 days. Every year, large numbers of pilgrims undertake the challenging journey to seek blessings at the sacred cave shrine located in the Himalayan region of Kashmir.
The pilgrimage is managed by the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB), which oversees arrangements related to registration, facilities, safety measures, and overall administration during the yatra period.
Restrictions Announced for Air Movement
As part of enhanced security measures, authorities have already declared all pilgrimage routes, including the traditional Pahalgam and Baltal corridors, as a No Flying Zone from July 1 until the completion of the yatra. The restriction is intended to strengthen monitoring and maintain secure conditions along the travel routes.
In line with this decision, helicopter services for pilgrims will not be available within the yatra zone during the 2026 pilgrimage season. Officials have advised visitors to plan their travel accordingly and use approved ground-based options to reach the shrine.
Alternative Travel Arrangements for Devotees
Pilgrims visiting the holy cave will be required to complete the journey on foot or make use of authorized services such as ponies and palkis. Authorities have urged all registered participants to remain informed about travel guidelines and follow official instructions issued for the pilgrimage.
The annual journey to the Amarnath cave holds deep religious significance for devotees who travel from different parts of the country to offer prayers before the naturally formed ice lingam. Despite the demanding terrain and weather conditions, the pilgrimage continues to attract large numbers of worshippers every year, making extensive planning and security arrangements essential for its successful conduct.
