Prime Minister Highlights Spiritual and Cultural Significance

In a post on X, the Prime Minister described the Amarnath Yatra as an enduring part of India’s spiritual heritage and cultural unity. He said the pilgrimage, associated with the darshan of Baba Barfani, brings together devotees from different parts of the country through a shared expression of faith.

In an open letter addressed to pilgrims, Modi said that participation in the journey was a meaningful opportunity for devotees. He referred to the beginning of the pilgrimage following the traditional first पूजा ritual held on Jyeshtha Purnima and extended his wishes to those undertaking the trek this year.

Devotees Travel From Across India and Abroad

The Prime Minister said the pilgrimage draws large numbers of Shiva devotees every year, including people from different regions, languages and cultural backgrounds. According to his letter, the journey reflects the diversity of the country while bringing pilgrims together in devotion.

He noted that many visitors travel to Jammu and Kashmir specifically to seek blessings at the holy cave shrine. Modi said the annual Yatra remains an important spiritual occasion for people who follow Sanatan traditions and for devotees who see the journey as a significant personal experience.

Security Agencies and Local Administration Recognised

Modi praised the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, the Jammu and Kashmir administration and security agencies for their work in organising the pilgrimage. He said their planning and service have helped ensure the smooth conduct of the Yatra over several decades.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged the contribution of the Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Border Security Force and National Disaster Response Force. He thanked doctors, medical staff, administrative teams, sanitation workers and other personnel involved in assisting pilgrims along the route.

He said thousands of officials and security personnel have been deployed to help manage the pilgrimage and support devotees during the two-month journey.

Local Hospitality and Voluntary Service

In his message, Modi said the Amarnath Yatra offers an example of India’s unity in diversity. He highlighted the role of residents of Jammu and Kashmir, who welcome pilgrims and provide assistance at different stages of the journey.

The Prime Minister also referred to community kitchens and voluntary service activities organised by devotees along the cave route and other pilgrimage paths. He said such efforts reflect a tradition of service and collective responsibility.

Five Commitments for Pilgrims

Modi asked pilgrims to maintain cleanliness throughout the Yatra and avoid leaving waste along the route. He also urged them to follow administrative instructions, traffic rules and security advisories, particularly in areas affected by rain, cold conditions and slippery terrain.

The third commitment encouraged pilgrims to spend at least 10 per cent of their travel budget on local products, helping support families and young people in Jammu and Kashmir. He also called on devotees to mark the final day of the Yatra, which coincides with Raksha Bandhan, by gifting a sapling and supporting the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign.

The fifth commitment asked citizens to carry the spirit of duty and nation-building beyond the pilgrimage by working with a Nation First approach throughout the year.

Modi said he hoped the Amarnath Yatra would continue to represent faith, cultural harmony and service. He concluded by wishing devotees a secure journey and praying that the pilgrimage brings renewed strength and spiritual purpose to their lives.
