AlliancePolitics – Udhayanidhi Stalin Sharpens Criticism of Congress Over TVK Support
AlliancePolitics – A fresh political dispute has emerged in Tamil Nadu, with DMK leader and Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin launching a strong attack on the Congress party over its decision to back Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) after the Assembly elections. The remarks reflect the growing distance between two parties that had worked together for years as part of a broader opposition alliance.

Udhayanidhi Stalin Targets Congress
Speaking at a thanksgiving gathering in the Chepauk-Triplicane constituency on Thursday, Udhayanidhi Stalin accused the Congress of abandoning its long-time ally at a crucial political moment. He stated that the DMK viewed the Congress’ decision to support TVK as a serious breach of trust and made it clear that the party would not overlook the move.
According to Udhayanidhi, the developments following the elections left many within the DMK disappointed. He emphasized that the party leadership and cadre considered the Congress’ actions a betrayal, particularly after the two parties had contested the elections together.
Concerns Over Communication Within the Alliance
During his address, Udhayanidhi also questioned the level of engagement maintained by Congress leaders with the DMK leadership. He claimed that even legislators elected on Congress tickets had not stayed in regular contact with senior DMK figures after the elections.
He contrasted Congress’ conduct with that of other alliance partners, saying several parties had continued to communicate important decisions and political developments with the DMK leadership. In his view, Congress had failed to demonstrate the same level of coordination and transparency.
Support for TVK Triggers Political Fallout
The tension intensified after Congress extended support to TVK in the aftermath of the Assembly elections. The decision enabled a new political arrangement in the state and effectively brought an end to the Congress-DMK partnership that had lasted for nearly two decades.
The move has generated considerable dissatisfaction among DMK supporters, many of whom believed the alliance partners should have remained united after campaigning together during the election. The issue has since become a major point of discussion within political circles in Tamil Nadu.
DMK to Stay Away From INDIA Bloc Meeting
The strain between the two parties has also affected broader opposition coordination at the national level. The DMK has announced that it will not participate in the INDIA bloc meeting scheduled for June 8 in New Delhi.
Party leaders cited the sentiments of workers and supporters as the primary reason behind the decision. According to the DMK, many cadre members feel deeply hurt by Congress’ post-election stance, especially after the party contested as part of the DMK-led alliance and secured five seats.
National Issues Remain a Common Focus
Despite the ongoing disagreement, the DMK has indicated that it does not intend to distance itself from opposition efforts on matters of national importance. The party stated that it would continue to work alongside other opposition groups when issues concerning public welfare and national interests arise.
However, the latest developments underline a significant political challenge within the opposition camp. As relations between the DMK and Congress remain under pressure, political observers will be closely watching whether both parties can rebuild trust or if the divide widens further in the months ahead
