Accident – Four-Year-Old Girl Dies After Falling From Tenth Floor in Delhi Apartment
Accident – A tragic incident has once again highlighted the importance of strengthening safety measures in high-rise residential buildings, following the death of a young girl in southeast Delhi.

A four-year-old girl lost her life after reportedly falling from the 10th floor of a residential building in Kalkaji Extension, southeast Delhi, on Saturday evening. According to police, the child was at home when the incident occurred. Her father, who earns a living as a fish seller in Govindpuri market, was away at work, while her mother had briefly stepped out to visit a neighbour, leaving the child inside the apartment.
Police Begin Detailed Investigation
Soon after receiving information about the incident, police teams reached the residential complex and secured the area. Officials from the Crime Team and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) conducted a thorough inspection of the apartment and surrounding location to collect evidence that could help determine exactly what happened.
The girl’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, which is expected to provide further clarity regarding the circumstances of the fall. Investigators are also reviewing CCTV footage from the building and nearby areas to reconstruct the sequence of events. Authorities said the investigation remains in progress.
Family Appeals for Improved Building Safety
The tragic death has left the family devastated. Speaking after the incident, the child’s aunt, Amrita Das, urged authorities to improve safety standards in residential buildings to help prevent similar accidents in the future.
She said the family hopes no other parents experience such a heartbreaking loss. According to her, balconies with insufficient protection and large gaps between staircase structures and balcony railings pose serious risks, particularly for young children. She appealed for immediate corrective measures to eliminate these hazards.
Questions Remain Over How the Incident Occurred
Residents of the apartment complex said there were no eyewitnesses who could explain how the child fell from the balcony. Local resident Sanjay Sarkar stated that the girl had returned from her maternal grandmother’s home only three days before the incident.
He explained that after putting the child to sleep, the mother had stepped outside briefly to speak with a neighbour. It is believed that the girl later woke up while alone in the apartment. Investigators are trying to determine whether she accidentally slipped through an opening in the balcony railing or climbed over it before the fall. At this stage, officials have not confirmed the exact cause.
CCTV Footage Under Examination
Police are carefully analysing surveillance camera recordings collected from the residential building and surrounding areas. Investigators believe the footage may help establish the timeline leading up to the incident and clarify the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
Officials have confirmed that all available evidence, including forensic findings and CCTV recordings, will be examined before any final conclusions are reached. The post-mortem report is also expected to play an important role in the ongoing investigation.
