Accident – Delhi Model Dies After Quarry Mishap During Advertisement Location Visit
Accident – A tragic incident in Kerala claimed the life of a 26-year-old model from Delhi who reportedly drowned while inspecting a location for an upcoming advertisement project. The accident took place on Thursday afternoon at an abandoned quarry in the Pettamala area near Kuruppampady in Perumbavoor. The victim had recently arrived in Kochi to participate in the filming of a promotional campaign for a clothing retailer.

Visit for Advertisement Shoot Ends in Tragedy
The deceased was identified as Divyanshu Jyoshi, a Delhi-based model who had traveled to Kerala for professional work. According to local authorities, he was part of a team exploring potential shooting locations for a commercial advertisement. During the visit, Divyanshu and a friend reached the abandoned quarry site, which had reportedly attracted attention because of its scenic appearance.
Police officials stated that the incident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. While spending time near the water, Divyanshu entered the quarry and is believed to have lost his footing shortly afterward. Witness accounts suggest he slipped unexpectedly and disappeared beneath the water before help could reach him.
Immediate Rescue Efforts Launched
Authorities said the victim’s friend was recording video footage at the time of the incident. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, he immediately sought assistance from nearby residents. Local people quickly informed emergency services, prompting a rapid response from fire and rescue personnel.
Rescue teams rushed to the quarry after receiving the distress call. Scuba divers were also contacted as part of the operation. However, rescue workers managed to locate and retrieve the victim before the divers arrived at the scene.
Body Recovered From Significant Depth
Officials involved in the operation reported that Divyanshu was found nearly 30 feet below the water’s surface. He was immediately transported to the Government Taluk Hospital in Perumbavoor for medical evaluation.
Despite the efforts of rescuers, hospital authorities confirmed that he had already succumbed before reaching medical care. Doctors declared him brought dead upon arrival.
Quarry Known for Deep and Hazardous Waters
Investigators noted that the abandoned quarry poses serious safety risks due to its considerable depth and underwater conditions. Police said certain sections of the water body are estimated to be nearly 100 feet deep, making the area particularly dangerous for visitors unfamiliar with the terrain.
The quarry has reportedly remained unused for more than two decades. Despite its inactive status, the location has drawn attention from photographers, content creators, and visitors because of visuals shared across social media platforms.
Social Media Visuals Reportedly Influenced Location Choice
Preliminary findings indicate that the team became interested in the quarry after viewing aerial footage and short videos circulating online. The picturesque appearance of the site is believed to have influenced their decision to consider it for the advertisement shoot.
Authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police have initiated further procedures and are gathering additional information as part of the ongoing investigation.
The tragedy has once again highlighted concerns about safety at abandoned industrial and quarry sites, particularly those that attract visitors through online content despite containing hidden dangers.
