Education – CUET-UG 2026 Exam Schedule Adjusted After Technical Delay

Education – A temporary technical issue affected the start of the CUET-UG 2026 examination at a limited number of centres on Saturday, leading to delays for some candidates. The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the nationwide entrance examination for undergraduate admissions, confirmed that the disruption was caused by a system-related problem reported by its technology service provider. Officials stated that the issue was resolved during the day and that steps were immediately taken to ensure students received the full duration of their examination without any loss of time.

NTA Announces Corrective Measures

According to the agency, candidates appearing in the morning session were allowed to continue their test for the complete allotted duration. Students were permitted to leave the examination hall only after finishing the entire paper, ensuring that no participant was affected by the delayed start.

The NTA said that special arrangements were made at the impacted centres to maintain fairness in the examination process. By extending the examination window where necessary, authorities aimed to provide equal opportunities to all candidates regardless of the disruption.

Revised Timings for Afternoon Session

Following the delay, the schedule for the afternoon session was modified. The NTA announced that candidate reporting and entry would begin from 2:30 pm. The examination, originally planned to start at 3:00 pm, was rescheduled to commence at 4:00 pm.

Officials explained that the revised timing was introduced to accommodate the adjustments required after the technical issue. The move was intended to ensure smooth conduct of the examination while maintaining standard testing conditions across all centres.

Agency Expresses Regret

In its public communication, the NTA acknowledged the inconvenience experienced by students and their families. The agency issued an apology and assured candidates that every effort was being made to safeguard the integrity of the examination process.

The statement noted that the objective remained to conduct the test in a fair and transparent manner. By providing compensatory time, the agency sought to prevent any disadvantage to candidates who were affected by the delay.

Support Channels Made Available

To assist students requiring information or clarification, the NTA also shared dedicated support channels. Candidates and parents were advised to contact the official helpline number, +91-11-40759000, for immediate assistance. In addition, queries related to the examination could be sent through the official email support system.

These support measures were introduced to address concerns arising from the temporary disruption and to provide timely updates to affected candidates.

Understanding the Importance of CUET-UG

The Common University Entrance Test for Undergraduate programmes, commonly known as CUET-UG, was introduced in 2022 as a unified admission examination for higher education institutions across India. Conducted by the National Testing Agency, the test is used by central universities, several state universities, and a number of private institutions for undergraduate admissions.

The examination was designed to create a common platform for evaluating students from different educational backgrounds. Instead of universities relying on separate admission tests, CUET-UG offers a standardised assessment process that helps streamline admissions.

Role in Higher Education Admissions

CUET-UG assesses candidates across multiple areas, including language proficiency, subject-specific knowledge, and general aptitude. The examination framework supports the broader goals of the National Education Policy 2020, which encourages equitable access to higher education and seeks to provide a level playing field for students from diverse regions and academic systems.

As one of the country’s major entrance examinations, CUET-UG plays a significant role in determining admission opportunities for thousands of aspiring university students each year. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring that all candidates receive a fair examination experience despite unexpected technical challenges.
