Trump: Prior to visit to Detroit, Indian American leaders provide a stark contrast
Trump: Two Indian American leaders in Michigan have issued starkly different statements on the eve of President Donald J. Trump’s visit to Detroit, highlighting political differences within the community on the president’s actions and remarks toward the city.

In order to greet Trump during his visit, Republican leader Sunny Reddy said that he would be funding billboards around Michigan. Reddy said on social media that the endeavor was intended to welcome the president and show support for Republicans in Michigan.
Reddy added, “I am “glad to join with Michigan Republicans” and “I wanted to mention that I am funding billboards around Michigan to welcome President Trump to our state.” He was just chosen to serve as Michigan’s Republican Party’s vice chairman.
Democratic Congressman Shri Thanedar, who has been publicly critical of Trump and represents a seat in the Detroit area, delivered a completely different message.
Recalling Trump’s prior visit to Detroit, Thanedar said the former president had made fun of the city. “When Donald Trump visited Detroit the last time, he insulted our city by claiming that if Kamala Harris were elected, the entire country would become like Detroit,” Thanedar remarked.
He questioned Trump’s economic assertions, especially those pertaining to manufacturing and the creation of jobs. Though he maintained that the reverse had happened, Thanedar said that Trump had pledged to bring manufacturing employment and economic prosperity to the area.
“Unemployment has reached a four-plus-year high, and we have lost 68,000 manufacturing jobs over the last eight months,” Thanedar said.
Thanedar also expressed disapproval of growing living prices, claiming that Americans now face higher daily charges. “Life in America is more expensive than ever,” he said, adding that Detroit “does not need any more of your lies or insults.”
Thanedar positioned himself as a champion for working families and said that he was committed to reducing expenses and enhancing affordability in the city. He said, “Detroit deserves better.” Detroit, I’m fighting for you. battling to reduce expenses and make living more reasonable.
