Tibet – More than a hundred supporters of the Tibetan cause from across the world gathered in Dharamshala, the headquarters of the Tibetan government-in-exile, for a three-day international meeting that concluded on Monday. Participants representing dozens of countries came together to exchange ideas, strengthen cooperation, and reaffirm their commitment to advocating for the rights and freedoms of the Tibetan people.

The gathering, organized by the Core Group for Tibetan Cause–India, brought together members of various Tibet Support Groups who have long been involved in raising awareness about issues affecting Tibet and its people.

International Delegates Express Solidarity

According to organizers, the meeting drew over 120 delegates from 32 countries. These participants included activists, civil society representatives, and members of organizations that work to highlight Tibetan cultural, religious, and human rights concerns on international platforms.

During the discussions, delegates shared experiences from their respective countries and discussed strategies for increasing global awareness about the situation in Tibet. Many participants emphasized the importance of coordinated international efforts to keep the issue visible in global discourse.

Representatives also reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful advocacy and dialogue aimed at addressing the longstanding concerns related to Tibet.

Meeting With the Dalai Lama

A key moment of the conference came when the delegates were granted an audience with the Dalai Lama in Dharamshala. The Tibetan spiritual leader has lived in exile in India since 1959 and remains an influential figure for Tibetans and supporters worldwide.

Tenzin Lekshay, spokesperson for the Tibetan government-in-exile, described the meeting as productive and encouraging. He noted that the conference successfully brought together supporters from around the world who remain dedicated to promoting the values associated with the Tibetan cause.

He said the final declaration of the gathering emphasized continued support not only for Tibetans but also for broader principles such as compassion, peace, and freedom, which many participants believe are central to the message associated with Tibet.

Concerns Raised About Tibetan Children

Several participants highlighted issues they believe require urgent international attention. Japanese supporter Hirofumi Kameda, director of the NGO Dream for Children, spoke about concerns related to Tibetan children.

Kameda said he felt it was important to attend the conference because of what he described as serious challenges faced by young Tibetans. He pointed specifically to reports about Tibetan children being placed in boarding school systems and stressed the need for global awareness and action.

According to him, continued international engagement is essential to ensure that the rights and well-being of Tibetan children remain part of ongoing discussions about Tibet.

Global Activists Reaffirm Commitment

Supporters from different countries said the gathering provided a valuable opportunity to reconnect with fellow activists and strengthen global networks advocating for Tibet.

Kelly Turley from the United States described the experience as meaningful and said the meeting allowed supporters from different generations to come together. She noted that bringing young activists and experienced campaigners into the same space helped renew motivation for continuing their work.

Turley also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to meet the Dalai Lama, calling it an important moment for many participants who have long supported Tibetan cultural and human rights initiatives.

Focus on Peaceful Resolution

Another participant, Tenzin Damchoe of the International Tibet Network in Los Angeles, said the conference created a space for meaningful discussion about possible pathways toward resolving issues related to Tibet.

He said the presence of delegates from more than 30 countries highlighted the global interest in the Tibetan issue and demonstrated a willingness among international supporters to work collectively.

Damchoe emphasized that many activists remain focused on advocating for a peaceful resolution to the Sino-Tibet conflict. According to him, the ultimate goal shared by many supporters is to ensure that Tibetans can freely practice their religion, preserve their culture, and live with dignity.

Continuing International Engagement

The Dharamshala meeting concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to ongoing advocacy and international cooperation. Delegates agreed that maintaining dialogue, raising awareness, and strengthening global partnerships remain essential for keeping attention on Tibet-related issues.

Organizers said the conference helped reinforce solidarity among Tibet support groups worldwide and encouraged participants to continue their work in their respective countries.

As supporters returned home, many expressed hope that collective international efforts would continue to promote understanding and peaceful solutions concerning the future of Tibet and its people.
