According to the ministry, several aircraft, naval vessels, and government-operated ships linked to China were detected operating in areas surrounding Taiwan during the early hours of the day.

Taiwan’s defence authorities stated that by 6 a.m. local time, seven aircraft sorties from the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), ten naval vessels, and six official Chinese ships had been tracked near Taiwanese territory. Officials noted that five of the seven aircraft entered the southwestern section of Taiwan’s Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ). The military said surveillance systems remained active throughout the operation and appropriate responses were carried out in accordance with standard procedures.
Increased Activity Recorded a Day Earlier
The latest figures follow a significantly higher level of activity reported a day earlier. On Thursday, Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence disclosed that it had detected 32 PLA aircraft sorties, along with ten Chinese naval vessels and five official ships operating around the island.
Military officials indicated that 25 of those aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered multiple sections of Taiwan’s ADIZ, including northern, central, southwestern, and eastern areas. The ministry said the movements were closely observed and handled by Taiwan’s armed forces.
Domestic Submarine Advances Sea Trial Program
Amid ongoing regional security concerns, Taiwan continues to strengthen its indigenous defence capabilities. Earlier this month, the island’s first domestically produced submarine departed from Kaohsiung Port to conduct another round of sea trials.
According to reports citing Taiwan’s Military News Agency, the exercise represented the submarine’s 15th sea trial and its ninth submerged-navigation test. The trials included underwater operational assessments designed to evaluate the vessel’s performance under realistic maritime conditions.
Regional Tensions Remain in Focus
The submarine testing program comes as military activity around Taiwan has continued to attract international attention. Analysts have noted a steady pattern of increased Chinese operations in the waters and airspace surrounding the island over recent years.
Beijing maintains that Taiwan is an integral part of China and has repeatedly emphasized its position through official policy statements and legal frameworks. Chinese authorities continue to oppose any moves they interpret as supporting Taiwanese independence.
