RescueOperation – A major rescue effort in Punjab ended successfully after authorities saved a young boy who had fallen into an open borewell in Hoshiarpur district. The incident, which triggered concern across the region, saw multiple agencies working together for several hours to safely pull the child out before shifting him to a nearby hospital for medical observation.
Child Fell Into Borewell While Playing
The incident took place on Friday evening in Chak Samana village of Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district. According to local officials, the three-year-old boy accidentally slipped into a borewell located near his house while playing outdoors. Residents immediately alerted the administration, after which emergency teams rushed to the site and began rescue operations without delay.
District Magistrate Aashika Jain, who supervised the operation from the location, said officials remained in constant communication with the child during the rescue process. She confirmed that the boy was responsive and reacted whenever rescue workers or family members spoke to him, which encouraged the teams working underground.
Multiple Agencies Joined Rescue Mission
Several departments, including the National Disaster Response Force, police personnel, health officials, fire services, and local volunteers, were deployed to the village. Heavy machinery was brought in to assist the operation, while teams explored technical methods to safely reach the child trapped below the surface.
Authorities initially considered digging a parallel shaft close to the borewell. Rescue experts later also worked on creating a sloped access route to reduce the time needed to reach the child. Officials stated that oxygen support was provided immediately through a pipe lowered into the borewell to ensure the child could breathe safely throughout the operation.
The administration also arranged lighting systems at the location as the rescue continued into the night. Civil Defence teams managed crowds and ensured emergency vehicles and machinery could move freely around the site.
Mother’s Voice Used To Comfort Child
Officials said one of the key priorities during the operation was to keep the child calm. Rescue teams asked the boy’s mother to speak to him regularly so that he could hear a familiar voice while trapped underground. Medical teams, including paediatric specialists, remained present at the site to monitor the situation and guide the rescue workers on safety measures.
District Magistrate Jain described the incident as deeply unfortunate and appealed to the public to cooperate with authorities. She urged residents not to block access routes or interfere with emergency work, adding that coordination among all departments was essential to complete the rescue safely.
The district administration also appointed senior officers to oversee communication between different agencies involved in the mission. Local village authorities and volunteers reportedly assisted by arranging additional machinery and logistical support.
Rescue Teams Worked Through Challenging Conditions
Officials estimated that the child was trapped at a depth ranging between 10 and 20 feet. Rescue personnel faced difficult soil conditions while attempting to reach him safely without causing further risk. Despite the challenges, communication with the child remained active for much of the operation, giving rescuers confidence that the mission could succeed.
The National Disaster Response Force played a major role in the final stages of the rescue. Teams carefully continued excavation work while maintaining oxygen supply and monitoring the child’s condition from above ground.
Child Shifted To Hospital After Rescue
Punjab Minister Ravjot Singh later confirmed that the rescue operation ended successfully. He thanked all agencies, volunteers, and local residents who contributed to the mission and said the child had been safely brought out before being taken to hospital for treatment and observation.
The successful operation drew attention to ongoing concerns surrounding open and unsecured borewells in rural areas. Officials have not yet released further details regarding the child’s medical condition, but authorities said doctors are monitoring him closely.
The incident once again highlighted the importance of quick emergency response, coordination between agencies, and public cooperation during rescue situations involving children and hazardous sites.
